Question of Signee Steven Threet (QB)

Don't rule out Nesbitt or Ingram.

Hey look at me rule out Ingram. There, I just did it.

Nesbitt might be a great QB in a year or two, but he's not on campus until the fall. He will redshirt, guaranteed.

On second thought, all the quarterbacks will be working with a new OC/system. And Gailey has started freshmen in big games before; maybe the odds of a freshman starting at ND are better than I originally thought.

I don't think Nesbitt redshirting is a guarantee. It was mentioned on signing day that they'd like to find a way to get him on the field similar to what Florida did with Tebow.

I'm thinking they may red-shirt Nesbitt b/c they're going to go with Bennett style offense(i.e. Passing game to back up TC running) and have Threet as the back up. Depending on how TB does will reflect on if Threet gets thrown into fire. TB produces and he'll stay on field for junior and Senior year. TB bobbles and thrown in threet. If Threet turns out to be ALL THAT then look for Nesbitt to move positions??????
If not then we go with Nesbitt and the reggie style O where the QB gets a chunk of running plays. OR threet starts or this or that......SO MANY OPTIONS its great to be a TECH fan right now.

After looking at Threet in the videos, sure wished CJ would have stayed around for another year.Kid is a good looking qb.Reminds me of a Manning with his size and gun

Great thing about Nesbit is he is big, strong and likes to hit people.Of course in the ACC folks will like to hit him too.He has the potential to play several positions, wideout, strong safety,rb etc.We are lucky.

I disagree that Nesbitt has to 'bomb' to move positions. Unless he excells, he will eventually play the position that gives him the best chance to play pro ball.

IMHO, if the guy beats out Threet, he has Pro potential at QB and he should stay there. But there are many who think he has the physical skills to be a pro at other positions. There are very few players who would rather be a backup QB and then a working Joe vs a starting safety (for instance) and then a Pro football player.

Ball was a starting QB and his pro prospects would be better if he had been moved. It is even possible that Nesbitt, if his physical skills are close to what they say they are, should consider a switch sooner rather than later...

All you have to do is listen to the coaching staff and you know that he's going to be given every opportunity to play qb including getting him on the field as a freshman.

Based on the talent we have coming back this makes the most sense - experienced and deep OL, a very good blocking FB, a deep and very talented group of running backs and a QB (no matter who wins out) with little game experience & uncertainty and lack of depth at the WR position.

Why does that make sense when ALL of those returnees AND one of the new QBs could step right into the offense that has been run for the last 5 years? I'm not saying we aren't changing to more of a drop back style game (since most have already reduced the race to two drop back passers), but, by all indications, Nesbitt is RB with skill. Wouldn't it be easier to teach one guy a new offense instead of all 11?

by all indications, Nesbitt is RB with skill.

For what it's worth, people were saying "Ball is Hamilton with Speed" about 5 years ago.

We have no idea - no idea - how cool a freshman is going to be in the pocket, and how well he will make decisions with the ball, which is the most important thing of QBing. Nesbitt could be great, he could suck. Threet could be great, he could suck. Threet is going to get the nod over Nesbitt in 2007 because Threet's enrolling early, ergo Nesbitt won't start in 2007, ergo he'll redshirt. Hell, they both might redshirt.

I see Threet spending some time in the backfield and throwing the ball some, but maybe not under the title of starting QB (or any QB) this year.

I think we need to wait & see what...

Booker brings to the table before we anoint any
starters. He certainly has the size & the talent, & oh
yea, he was a 4 star QB out of HS if what I read on
here is correct.

Doesn't Booker still have to wait a year to play? He's also not a scholarship player and, if I understand the rule correctly, the second he steps on the field he'll count against our scholly limit.

Booker sat out last season. If he has a hope and plays, he becomes a scholarship player.

Booker doesn't count against the number. He is, however, on a Hope scholarship. If he were to play, that Hope would become an athletic scholarship.

I am not sure you guys are reading this correctly.

It would not count against our 79 for this fall...or 85 thereafter....it is not a full scholarship.

If that was the case....then Andrew Smith, Tyler Evans, etc. etc. would have all been considered scholarship players against the NCAA limit.

I don't know the exact rule but think the confusion may be around what the Hope represents. Schools aren't allowed to get around scholarship limits by using academic money IIRC. However, that infers that they "get" the kid an academic scholarship that they couldn't get on their own. In the case of the Hope, all GA residents are eligible, so they aren't getting any benefit that isn't available to all students. Don't know if this is the correct interpretation but seems in line with NCAA rules.
