Don't we play a home and away with Alabama sometime in the next few years? When is that?

I think you can fill in "Open" with....

the names of Troy, Samford, etc. if Rad sticks to what LSU has done the past few years.

And with our brutal ACC schedule + UGAg every year, that's not a bad thing. If we want to win 9 or more consistently, we need to schedule more like our opponents.

Ten ACC is hard enough as it is, so the ACC is probobly going to become the SEC in terms of non-conference opponents

I have no problem with scheduling weaker opponents

There is a vocal minority that wants our OOC schedule to be the entire SEC East.

Re: I have no problem with scheduling weaker opponents

I for one did like the tougher OOC schedule but I am softening up on my stance because of the strength of the ACC, Just don't tell anyone, I don't want anyone to think I am a softy.

If you look around the ACC we already have the hardest OOC schedule. UNC was for a while keeping pace with us but they have scaled way back on their scheduling.

Point being, the rest of the ACC is already scheduling OOC like the SEC. VT is the extreme but NCSU and others are not far behind. No one except us has 2 top 10 folks in their OOC - most don't have one.

Glad to see we're all coming to our senses.

Remember my earlier proposal was also to phase out the UGA game (annually) in favor of getting to play Bama, Tenn, ND, Auburn, et al, every once and a while. As we are forced into weaker nonconference games, we will also miss playing these opponents at least every ten years. I know, I know, the UGA game is irreplaceable, but I just don't buy that anymore. Personally, I enjoyed the Auburn and Notre Dame games just as much as UGA, if not more because the festivities were so much more fun. And of course, the byproduct of removing the game is that the state may actually warm up to the Jackets more. I mean we "aren't even a rival for them any more" so who cares. We should play Miami the last weekend of the season, as UVA-VPI and Duke-UNC should. That game would draw just as much attention as Tech-UGA. It would also help the state build up its programs instead of always having one loser getting in the way of postseason stuff.

Effectively the Tech-UGA is just as important as Tech-Auburn or Tech-Tennessee. It just isn't that important except for local bragging rights and overall record. But if we played those other opponents occassionally, we'd all get to enjoy other fun areas and other fun opponents at home. As is stands, we will never play Tenn/Ala/Aub and likely ND again in the future (after the Ala game). And to me, that will be missed just as much as UGA EVERY year.

And might I add, that the UGA-Clemson game isn't being played anymore either. So UGA loses out by playing Tech every year too.

Of course, I am old and senile and remember when Tech-Auburn was just as big a game as Tech-UGA. I am not in any way trying to go back to the SEC days (the ACC is a much better fit), just a few local opponents now and then.

I know for a fact FSU and UF have to play each other every year due to state law. Neither team can chicken out like Florida did with Miami and I wouldn't be surprised if Georgia had a similar law, especially with a "governer's cup" instituted and all.

I think we have a nice OOC schedules coming up the next few years. I'm kind of like Goldilocks with OOC scheduling, not too easy, not too hard, just right. I think UGA plus one game against real competition is enough. One year, though, I think will be too hard is 2008, with us drawing BC and FSU from the Atlantic and having Louisville and UGA OOC. You could certainly go without the Louisville game just for that one year.

However, I never want to see us looking like Alabama or Virginia Tech, where you need one of these to figure out their schedule.

Actually it was signed into law when Coach Dodd took us out of the SEC, I do not remember the exact date.

UM is private and that I believe is the reason UF/UM could not be mandated.

We could easily get that law changed. If UGA wanted out too for the same reasons then the law would be changed over night.

You're right, it could be but, if the fans still want the game it should not be changed and I believe they do.

I don't care what anyone says about this rivalry. Georgia doesn't want to get rid of this game and we shouldn't either. yes the have won the last few but all the georgia fans and former players I talk too know that this is a big rivalry. It's the sidewalk fans that embarrass them but the true gagger fan knows the history.

I would like us to consider playing UGA at a different time. A "last Saturday in September" type of tradition or even a first game would be fun. It could be to our advantage to catch them in the middle of their SEC schedule.

UNC-NCSU has played at different times up here, but early October is the most frequent date. It's a good, not great, rivalry with lots of attention game week.

Having to end with UGA has proven tough on us.

This would also give us some different options for Game 12.

Ding Ding Ding 77 We have a winner.

I would very much like to put ga. the first game of the season. The ACC has gotten so tough that when we play for the ACCCG I would like to have an off week before. I have spoken to several gagger players and Tech alum and they like the idea as well.

I like the first game scenario

We are typically not as deep as UGA, so we should have most of our players. I also think we play big teams tough early in the season because our staffs have historically been able to put in wrinkles that have confused opponents. That said, I do not see any movement on that front.
