Quit complaining about the defense

I discovered something interesting. I decided to look at the defensive stats of the 2007 LSU National Championship team to gain some perspective. That team was known for having a stout defense and knowing how to win football games. Here are some stats I wanna present for you:

LSU(10-1) vs. Ole Miss(3-8)
Ole Miss
Total Yards = 466

LSU(10-2) vs. Arkansas(8-4)
Arkansas
Total Yards = 513

Some were saying that good teams don't give up 487 yards. I beg to differ.

Let me introduce you to a term called outliers.

That team averaged 288 ypg allowed.

The MNC participants were 1 and 3 in total defense.

I know what an outlier is you jackass. What I was proving is that even the best defenses have games giving up as much yards as we did last night.

We've been pretty wretched on defense for a good while going back to last season.

But we've been bad on defense the majority of the year and the second half of last year. It's not just one game.

Giving up yds is only one aspect and it doesn't mean the defense is terrible

You're defending your endzone and trying to keep them out of it..... Bottom line

If you're doin that and giving you O a chance to win thenMISSION ACCOMPLISHED

If you can create TO's while giving up yds then you're fine

Good D's show up inside the 20's. We're doing that

We're giving up yards and points by the bushel. What are you talking about?

I don't have the patience to read all this, but agree with the premise that people need to lay off the D. MSU is good offensively. We'll get it worked out, wait for this weekend.

Yes, but when you're giving up a ton of yards it's tough to keep them out of the endzone. I think our defense yesterday looked very similar to our defense against Miami; the difference is MSU made a bunch of mistakes by dropping the ball a lot. You don't want to rely on your opponent to make a mistake to stop them, because when you do that and you go up against a good team...well, we all remember Miami.

Miss State 2009 offensive stats:

opponent- pass+rush=total yards

GT- 278+209=487 (L)
Jackson St- 172+238=410 (W)
LSU- 223+151=374 (L)
Vandy- 81+260=341 (W)
Auburn- 130+167=297 (L)

I hear ya, but I don't think last night is comparable to Miami

Our defense(1st Team) is giving up less than 3 TD's a game... That's actually not too bad considering....

A: Morgan is fighting Double Teams and the rest of our D line aren't there yet

B: Miami was goin 12 days

Our D Line is root of the problem. We still need more penetration

Does anyone know how many RedZone TD's we've given up? There haven't been a lot and that's where a GOOD D shows its colors?

We've given up a lot of BIG PLAYS and its due in part a lot to lack of Line Pressure and Penetration

I just think we're being way too critcal of a team that's gone on the road and won an SECOND game and beaten 2 big Conference Foes at the home.

Good Teams always find a way to get better. That's what we're doing....getting better

We WON, and we've won 2 Big games in a row( and 1 of those our "terrible Defense" gave up less than 200 yds)

The Boo Birds can blow mem.. And can consider themselves POSERS as true GT fans

But was I wrong?

I'm trying not to blatently call people out and insult them

Its tough to do when there are just ridiculous comments

If you took him literally, then yeah, you're wrong. Ever think he might be just coming across over the top like we all do? Ridiculous to get bent out of shape over that comment. I felt like those kids should turn in their scholly's too last night when I was liquored up.

Our D gave them their best passing yardage and second best rushing yardage. Despite the fact they turned it over 5 times and we had a large advantage in TOP. No need to sweep it under the rug.

Let's also remember they're learning a new offense, much as we were last year. It's reasonable to think that they're getting better at is as the year goes on. That said, our defensive performance Saturday night was not one that will generate much confidence in the D, but it's also over. What's important is that they get their act together, not that we whine about what's already done.

YES!!!

Sam Adams Oktoberfest FTW!!!

I'm getting some Sam Adams tomorrow!! If it makes Cajun not worry about our defense, then its gotta work for me too!!!

In all seriousness, I'm not concerned simply because we gave up a bunch against Miss St. They are an up-and-coming team and will be hell to deal with next year. I am concerned because we have shown no signs of improvement and if we play a team that can stop our offense once or twice we and can play half decent offense, we are in trouble.

sam adams blows. if you want a decent american beer buy yuengling, anchor steam, sierra nevada, sweetwater, or a new belgium brewing product. anyhoo.

was it just me or did we not beat the **** out of msu?! game did NOT seem close to me. the score made it seem closer than it actually was IMO.

besides a couple plays, one being a KO return, we dominated. so why complain?

If drinking my choice, its bourbon (Makers Mark). If drinking to convince myself to quit worrying about our defense, I'm drinking whatever Cajun is drinking... Sam Adams. :D
