Random thoughts about the special teams

They have a kid as a PWO for next year (‘18) as a kicker. I don’t think you need more than that. We’ve got two current PK, one punter, another coming and probably a mess of guys that can fill in if needed. I don’t think we need to burn a roster slot on more than that.

They will cost us a game this season.
What do you mean will? shouldn't we be saying have cost us a game this season? Hello, missed field goal against UT, wouldn't have been in OT if we made that. Not to mention the kickoffs where we let them start on the 40 or 50.

Losing to UT was a total team effort. Can't ignore the fumbles and poor second half defense to hang the UT loss on the kicker. (Granted, he choked.)

That was the joke

Harrison Butkers first three games at Georgia Tech: 1/3 on FG's
Shawn Davis's first three games at Georgia Tech: 1/3 on FG's

Butker through first 19 extra points: 18/19
Davis through first 15 extra points: 14/15

Fair to point that out, but we're talking about a 3 or 4 star recruit vs a walk-on, so I think we had more reason to hope that Butker would improve. King had some good high school stats and plenty of leg. I just wonder if CPJ thinks that both guys are going to have a hard time at first and he doesn't want to mess up the confidence of the guy with more upside. Pure speculation.

Pappanastos uses advice from PGA champ Justin Thomas in kicking
Sep 21, 12:30 PM

Three weeks into the 2017 season and ahead of the start of SEC play, Alabama seems to have found its placekicker in walk-on and former Ole Miss Rebel, Andy Pappanastos.

:ugh:

"The best turned out of it, and now I'm committed to Alabama," Bulovas said. "Coach (Paul) Johnson and the Georgia Tech family were really great to me, but to play in the SEC and to play at a school that's four hours away and is ultimately the biggest and best team in college football and having me come in and play right away is something I couldn't pass up."

Those are fair points... though I don't remember Butker's early flubs being quite so traumatic for us.
