Randy edsall started going for 2 in the 1st quarter today

2001 was also the year Clemson beat us by scoring 40 points in the second half by repeatedly calling the Woody Danzler Draw Play, right?

Hard to believe we'da had an 11 win season in 2001 if it weren't for those two boneheaded coaching decisions.

It's also hard to believe Tech fans forget that crap when they're touting O'Leary as a good coach.

I believe it would've been a 10 win season if you reverse those two games, but you could just as easily add the "Joe Burns steps out of bounds" game against MD to the list of things that went wrong that season.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to blame GOL for the Clemson loss as much as I would applaud WD's talent. Still a crappy game all around tho.

They only called 2 plays the whole second half, a QB draw and a 7 yard out-route, and they scored over 40 points on those two plays. If you can't adjust to TWO PLAYS you're a wretched coach. Yes, we can hang that directly on Roof, but George was quoted afterwards as saying, "sometimes you just have to trust your base 4-3 defense" ...translation... "we didn't adjust because we didn't know what to do to stop those 2 plays." Tech fans were irate. Especially since the only adjustments necessary were "spy Danzler and tighten the corners."

Duly noted. I had forgotten that they scored that many points in the 2nd half alone. But I do certainly remember knowing that the draw was coming on Woody's final TD run before the ball was ever snapped. Given my level of expertise, I guess that alone is enough to blame the coaching.

edit: Looking back at the box score CU actually scored 33 in the 2nd half.

**Beej, we did go for 2 three times during the game , and we didn't convert a single time.** Manget is freakin' perfect on PATs, and you go for 2 throughout the game, not just at the end, and we lose in overtime. Man, I'm pissed at GOL all over again.

So, beej you were right and I was right, I had just forgotten about going for two so many times in the Clemson game.

keep in mind that we kept Dantzler in check the first half before Daryl Smith was injured. After he went out, the backup MLB wasn't quick enough to spy Woody and Clemson knew it.

Haha, I think we were both wrong on that, according to haywire on page 2.

Also, bare in mind that 2001 team was likely the most talented all around team we've ever had at GT in the last 40 years, and we were picked as a longshot at the national championship that year. MUCH more talented a team than this 2007 squad, very senior laden, returning almost the entire offense including the #1 WR, #1 RB, and #1 QB, all seniors, as well as several NFL caliber defensive players. And we squandered the UVA game, the Clemson game, and the Maryland game on really really stupid stuff. And lost to UGA. And got beaten by Chris Rix. (ugh)

Nobody minded when O'Leary quit. We were happy to see him go.

Yeah, I remember. Freakin' terrorists.
