Shannon said the biggest thing for his team's mental status is to not let the win against Florida State get them too high. But as far as on the field, Shannon said the biggest key will obviously be stopping the triple option. "They have about four or five different scenarios on how they will run it," Shannon said. "The biggest factor will be [Jonathan] Dwyer. The fullback must be accounted for on every single play. If he happens to get into the open field, we have to get him down for a 10 or 12 yard gain and then line up again. We cannot afford him to get long runs against us and that’s what makes their offense go."

I'm pretty sure 10~12 yard runs will make our offense go too! It's nice to see that he doesn't think a 10~12 yard run is a long run when facing our O.:laugher:

What an idiot. He does also realize that I don't think I have ever really seen anyone actually catch Dwyer if he gets out into open space.

It's just like last year when Shannon said the best way to stop the option was to tackle high to prevent the pitch. OMG was he wrong.

The more I read about what he thinks it takes to beat GT the more tempted I am to give GT about 7 points on my prediction.

10 or 12 yards? really Randy? Not only will we score if that's his mentality we will also eat up some clock too. Brilliant.

My confidence in this game last week and even yesterday was pretty low. But as I've read quotes out of Miami along with a lot of their fans complete message board ignorance, my confidence is growing a bit.

I think what what he means is if JD breaks into 2nd level, to only let him get 10-12 yards instead of 50+ like he did last year.

I own you.

He's basically saying he needs to stop the homeruns we're prone to hit when running our offense.

He's really big on Dwyer... so won't this be where that mid-line option thing comes into play?

Yes I think we all know what he meant Kyle. The point was that he made a comment that could be construed to mean that he didn't think 10~12 was many yards.

Also he thinks the only way we can run our offense is with the 'long run'.

Now go kill the fun in another thread.

I think 10-12 yards is about the time he hits high gear and leaves defenders behind, so there might be something to his strategy. CPJ would probably be happy with 10-12 yard gains all night, though.

I'm sure CPJ has some sort of plan to get his best offensive player (Dwyer) the ball in open space. We won't see Dwyer dive into three lineman all year like he did in the Clemson game.

Yea, that's what I read there too. That said, he seems oblivious to what the "four or five" scenarios really means. Because there's more then four or five plays we run from our base formation, and there's so many different ways to run just the veer that I don't think Randy really learned his lesson last season. I sure hope that's the case.

Shannon could be playing the stupid and naive card on purpose.

Probably because we only needed to run 4 or 5 plays last year.:laugher:

Does he think that will work? It didn't last year. And it isn't working out so hot for Al Groh. Paul Johnson isn't going to take it easy on Shannon because he feels sorry for a mentally handicapped person. He's going to beat his ass back to the stone age.

Midline just changes the first read from the DE to the DT. That change last week had more to do with our lack of blocking than the way Clemson schemed us. Clemson may have the 2 best DE's not named Derrick Morgan in the ACC. They were talented enough to scrape Jon inside then slow play Nesbitt, then run to the pitch (AMAZING). That's why we only ran the triple 1 time for big yards. However, if we could have successfully blocked the DT's then Sapp and Bowers (DE's) would had to have sold out on the dive and the outside would have been more open.

I know Miami has a freak athlete at DT in Allen Bailey. I'm not sure how the rest of their DL stacks up though.
