1. ACCCG- Dec 2nd win gives us the ACC championship and that is the goal every year.

2. DISTANT 2ND Ugag win
2. Orange Bowl win this is important b/c it is a BCS

4. Dook game

It is a strange world but we could lose to Dook and win the next 3 and have the best season since 1990.

:werd:

Sorry, lawbee, but I am drinking the one game at a time kool-aid this year!

The Duke game is the most important game.
The UGag game will be the next most important game, but will only show up on the radar sometime around 5:00 or so Saturday evening.
The ACCCG will become important on the 25th around 7:00 or so, etc....

Hopefully the Orange Bowl will get the chance to be an important game for these Jackets!!!

GO JACKETS!!

Law: I like your current proposed rankings and I think you absolutely nailed it the way that you listed them. No doubt in my mind that the ACC trophy is first on the list for me, in terms of priority. Secondly, it's high time we nailed UGA. Anything else is just icing on the cake and reason to celebrate by uncorking another bottle of wine.

I also agree with the list.

To me, the ACC Championship is HUGE!

1. uga
2. C game
3. OB or bowl game

It was confirmed today that dook is meaningless: Peach will take uga if they beat us. If that happens, and we don't play in Orange, we will be royally flushed again. The Gator would not be a possibility.

uga is still huge, as usual. We need a bye week.

1. ACC Championship Game -There is no Orange Bowl without a win in the ACCCG.

2. Orange Bowl -Up until recently GT had the best bowl game winning percentage of all D-1A schools. I enjoyed the fact that GT held that mark and would like to see it regained.

3. UGA game -I know. It's Georgia. After five long years and a couple of close calls we want to defeat the Dawgs. BELIEVE ME, as a UGA grad I want to defeat the Dawgs as much as anybody (sounds odd huh? check my profile for more info if you don't already know  ). The rationale is GT does get to play UGA each and every year. GT does not get to play for an ACC Championship every year, and has not played in the Orange Bowl since 1967.

4. Duke game -Well this does go against my normal mindset of the next game being the most important. It is the last home game for the seniors and I do expect them to go out with a W. Hopefully convincingly enough to warrant playing the back-ups in the second half and resting some of the banged up starters for the UGA game.

Well, I can be honest and tell you that the more I ponder my list, as I think back to sitting between the hedges for the 2002 debacle, the 2004 heartbreak, watching the 2005 should-a-been at BDS

...remembering 1998 for the feeling of joy and exhilaration when I watched the FG go through the uprights to end the seven-year drought, and then the sheer satisfaction of winning three-in-a-row

...not to mention sitting in the freakin' UGA student section in '86 & '88 in my GT gear, that great day in club level in '84 BTH for the 35-18 John Dewberry led (and John Davis least I forget) victory and the follow-up in '85 when all of my UGA friends and roommates were so sure they would win that game, well, prior to GT's 13 man goal line stand to end the first half and Gary Lee's KO return that silenced my UGA friends for the night

Heck yes, I do believe that I am now ready to put the UGA game ahead of the Orange Bowl.

Actually after typing all of that, I'm ready for the UGA game now!!

Obviously ACC Championship and Orange Bowl are the most important. I doubt any recruit gives a damn about Duke or Georgia... Two meaningless games. Tech fans need to get out of this mindset where the UGA game is the be-all end-all of our seasons.. Our goals should dwarf one stupid game... The UGA game should only mean something if we are both undefeated with the NC on the line like Mich-OSU..

Its all about the rings.. 2 big fat ones waiting for us.

Last time I checked, we dont get anything from beating Georgia.. We get the smart athletes, they get the dumb ones.. regardless of who wins each year.

I want UGA to be undefeated every year when we play them.. the national championship road should always lead thru ATL and Athens.. Otherwise, you get lots of stinking yankee teams fighting over the prize.. only an idiot would rather see michigan, ohio state or notre dame with the NC instead of a team from GA..

I always laugh at the people in the stands around me when they cheer for other teams to beat UGA. Its a self defeating exercise. We will never get respect by only beating UGA when they suck..

If we win the ACC and Orange, I can easily accept 0-2 with duke and uga..

Uh ...I do not concur. I certainly do not want UGA to be undefeated at any time. I sincerely just laugh out loud when UGA loses to a Vanderbilt or Kentucky. A GT victory on top of something like that makes for one great weekend.

Guess you've never had a fat-drunken UGA fan bark in your face when GT fumbles on the goal line BTH ('92 IIRC), causing you to lose your cool and almost get thrown out of the stadium.

I'm no fan of Big Ten schools or expecially Notre Dame. I do despise all things orange, be it Clemson, Tennessee, Florida, Syracuse, Texas. I would certainly pull for the likes of Wake Forest, Rutgers, LSU, Arizona State (wife's alma mater) over UGA any day.

Hahahah, if that kind of thing bothers you so severely, you should watch the game on TV. We will never get anywhere beating a bunch of loser teams.. You should want UGA's one loss to be us.. Wow, we beat them this year.. so did vandy and kentucky.. not very special..

Using your rational I suppose this years 8-2 season thus far, top 20 ranking, Coastal Division championship , ACCCG and possible Orange Bowl really aren't much to cheer about, seeing that every team on GT's schedule has at least one loss on their record, some even with losing records.

I am speaking about the UGA specifically. Don't try and muddy the waters with absurd commentary. Obviously we are having a good year, but a GREAT year means ACC Championship and Orange Bowl win. The UGA game is nothing. You guys that feel like UGA's perpetual victims need to get over it.

People who rank UGA above ACC Champ. need perspective adjustment.

Surely easier said, than done. I remember how I felt sitting in the stands during that 51-7 loss.

This is the best chance we've had in several years to beat UGA and I just can't help wanting to capitalize on that opportunity. It's time braggin rights came to the Flats for a change.

I believe that's the point I am trying to make, especially after reflecting on it a bit. I originally posted that the ACCCG and Orange Bowl were the two biggest games of the remaining four. As I stated GT does not get to play for an ACC Championship every year and has not played in the Orange Bowl since 1967. These are and will be two major accomplishments for this program.

That being said, I reconsidered my post and moved the UGA game up ahead of the Orange Bowl simply because of the personal feelings of both elation and disappointment that I have felt over the years of attending games at BDS, attending games at SS and watching games on TV.

For me personally, the outcome of those games have meant more to me than say, a loss in the Emerald Bowl or a win in the Champs Sports Bowl. The 14-7 loss to UGA last year stung much more than the 38-10 debacle against Utah.

But even when bigger bowl games are figured into the equation I still feel the same way. The three game winning streak against UGA from '98-'00 is more important to me than the one win and two losses in the Gator and Peach respectively. The 35-28 victory against Notre Dame in the '99 Gator was only the second time in the 14 games between the two during my lifetime that GT had defeated ND (well, three if you count the 3-3 tie in '80 ;) ) and I thouroughly enjoyed that.

I know that, in considering accomplishments and bowl games, we're talking on another level this year. Winning an ACC Championship would be so satisfying and topping that off with an Orange Bowl victory would be great as well (especially if Florida is the opponent).

So, I can understand why some people would feel that these two games are more important than the UGA game. As I stated, GT does play UGA each and every year, GT does not play for an ACC Championship or in an Orange Bowl every year. That being said, the ACCCG is most important, but I know the disappointment or elation of the upcoming UGA game will linger longer than the outcome of the Orange Bowl.

Now, let me climb down from this fence and get on with the day.

1. UGA
2. ACCCG
3. Orange Bowl
4. Duke

Beat UGA = gigantic confidence boost, which I think helps the Jackets run the table. Lost to UGA and potentially lose out.

defeatist thinking and already rationalizing for a lose out. All because you place tremendous value on beating a .500 team...

I'm sorry, but if we go 0-2 against dook and ugag, the championship game and Orange bowl will be all but meaningless. Yeah, the players will get their rings and they'll have earned them, but as far as respect and rankings we'll end up just about where we are right now - 18-20 at the end of the season win or lose the bowl game.

Part of the benefits of a 9-2 record going into post season play is if you're successful in the post season, you'll be positioned better in the preseason polls which is (unfortunately) essential for getting that #1 or #2 ranking at the end of the year and the shot at a NC.

And shouldn't that be where our sights are set for?

If we lose to DU and UGa next year preseason we'll be ranked in the top 25 but that's about it, regardless of the outcome of the post season.

Dust: Don't let the ranking thing rattle you. We're all in total agreement that UGA is just another trophy head to hang on the wall, on our way to the Orange Bowl. For us old timer GT fans, the grudge runs really deep with our rival. At the risk of getting mugged by 90,000+ drunken UGA fans, I can't think of anything more fun to do than to walk downdown Athens and the UGA campus wearing the White & Gold. Well... maybe pouring a gallon of hungry fleas on their Dawg might perhaps be more fun.
