RE: Why are people upset?

I agree that Reggie should rest.

But there is no way that Reggie will not start on Senior Day.

The rest of the plan can work like some of you say. But he will certainly have to play at least one snap and probably one series with whatever limited/zero reps your plan prescribes this week.

Yeah, BOR, Mooney and Chevers(?) were good, but as you say, there was new blood and little quality depth.

William Bell went and got hisself suspended for the YEAR! (some programs would have made him sit out the Furman game). That hurt, too.

but we went a "mediocre" 7-5 in 1991 with a pre-season Top Five ranking.

We had three returning starters on the OL in 1991 including future NFL'er Russell Freeman at RT. We had Mooney and Chubbs as well. We had returning TE Tom Covington, returning QB Shawn Jones....and returning WR's Emmett Merchant and Bobby Rodriquez...along with the underwhelming 5-star recruit Derrek Steagall...throw in Greg Lester. ACC freshman of the year Jimy Lincoln was at TB. Lots of experience and talent there.
Defensively, we had future NFL'ers in Marco Coleman, Willie Clay, and Coleman Rudolph. Throw in leading tackler Jerrelle Williams at LB...and super athletic Marlon Williams. This is the year that Ken Swilling started his decline in performance.
Scott Sisson was back as the kicker...and played in the NFL afterwards.
We had a lot of talent and experience on this team...it was mainly that everyone was shooting for us from a mental standpoint.
To refresh memories...we lost in 1991 to Penn State, Clemson, NCState, South Carolina, and Georgia. Hard to say what our biggest win was...maybe the 18-17 win against Stanford in the Aloha Bowl.

Re: 1991 team = 2001 team?

Hivered:

During 1991, I could never get a good feel for what was going wrong, but it certainly appeared the team underperformed considering the talent returning- even missing W Bell. (forgot about Jimy).

In retrospect, I think 1991 mirrored the 2001 team and their struggles. Either the players weren't quite on the same page (chemistry) or they caught wind that the staff was moving on...I tend to think it was the latter in both cases.

I thought the Aloha Bowl gave us 8 wins. The PSU game was the Kickoff Classic or something which allowed us to play a 12th regular season game.

1991 was the year that we blew the big lead to FSU at home. We ended up 5-2 (tied for 2nd) in the ACC according to RamblingWreck.com.

GT1992, You May Have To Change ....

your screen name :wow: . 1992 was the year we blew the big lead to FSU at home.

Hivered, 1991 Got Off ...

to a bad start when Penn State clobbered us in the Kickoff Classic. Given the previous year and the talent returning, I thought we were set for a big run at the top. Things went downhill after that. A loss to Clemson when we missed a FG at the end. I remember we hit about a 40 yarder but an OL was offsides and the rekick was a ittle too long for Scott and was no good. Then a bad loss to an NC State team we should have beaten. Heck, we had to come from behind to beat Furman by two and lost to the dawgs when we fumbled it away on a late drive. Things just never clicked that season and we soon went into a deep tailspin.
