Sometimes you win and really lose...

The tragic thing about GT football right now is that Gailey has completely lost the fan base. As I visited with x players and the All Americans it was apparent that anyone with any football knowledge has completely given up on this guy. He has lost the confidence and trust of the majority of that stadium. Yes there will always be the 20% that drink the coolade but that is in any situation (even OJ).

Wins and losses and Bowls matter (it is how ultimately we are all judged in life) but there are other factors that can force you into a decision that could, on the surface appear crazy but really be the best decision. Look at the Carolina fans...they are estatic about the future in Chapel Hill. Why? They are 3-8 for gosh sakes! But the numbers can't reflect the underlying excitement that is inside of there bones today because they know the future is extremely bright. It was probably the way most of you felt at GT after 1989 or O'leary's first year. Anticipation is a great thing.

So I ask us as Tech fans....What are we anticipating from our current coach? In my mind, you must make your decision prior to the UGA game. UGA has had big emotional games the past 4 weeks and could allow us to play with them well into the 2nd half. So don't get fooled.

At the end of the day DRAD is faced with a simple decision...Do I choose the Reagan approach and cut taxes to see the ecomony grow or do I take the Carter approach and raise taxes and suck every bit of life out of the ecomony. If DRAD cuts Gailey, the revenues will flow. If he keeps him, he doesn't have to worry about the 4+MM now but he will ultimately lose it all in the end.

Right on GT 92. Drad has to pull the trigger this year, whether it's after the Ugay game , or a bowl game, if we get an invitation!

GT92,

I kind of agree with what you are saying. I thought Gailey did a very poor job against UNC in a lot of areas and I have my doubts about his ability to be successful here longterm.

However, there is no way that GT will fire a coach that is 8-4 with a win over UGA coming off a 9 win season where his team won its division. There is just no way that will happen.

I don't like a lot of decisions that Gailey has made but I see the biggest problems are personnel on the field. You could make a case that GT has the weakest QB, WR, and CB positions in the conference. It looks like the current GT plan is working for recruiting and we have not had a steady recruiting plan at GT in my lifeline. We could be on the verge of that.

I'm frustrated like many are by some of Gailey's decisions and his ability to lead and motivate the entire program but if we beat UGA on Saturday, he is going to be here and we have to figure out a way to get behind him and provide the support our program needs.

I'll take Reagan over Carter every time. Supply Side economics! Lets build-up our forces as well!

Here is a fundamental flaw in alot of people's minds. THESE ARE KIDS!!!! I spoke with alot of them after the game and they are really KIDS. Gailey is the coach. He is responsible for the QB and WR play. I spoke with Joe Ham at the half and he is begging for Gailey to let him coach the QB's but to no avail. It is not the players, it is the coach.

We had several years to prepare for the end of the Reggie Ball era or to find a way to end the era sooner. Our solution? A guy with one year of QB experience in high school.

Yeah, that's got BCS written all over it.

GT92,

I don't disagree with you on a lot of what you're saying. What I was trying to express was I don't think it is possible for GT to fire a coach that is 8-4 and just beat a Top 10 UGA team. Just doesn't seem possible.

I think Joe Ham would do a great job, although I don't think he believes we have a great scheme so what good would that do?

I guess the point I'm trying to make, is I don't like Gailey's coaching style, I don't like a lot of the decisions he makes, but he has had modest success here with average talent and if he finishes 8-4 with a UGA win, I just don't think he can be fired. and if that is the case we need to figure out how to move forward together. At least we can move forward with a win over UGA the educated belief that it looks like we could bring in some pretty good players under this staff.

Although, he could lose to UGA this Saturday and we will have a number of options to discuss. Until that point we need to support the total program.

Not trying to defend Gailey. He deserves the blame for personnel limitations. Simply trying to point out that it will be very difficult to fire a coach that finishes 8-4 with a win over UGA especially when you consider GT's personnel.

What? You don't have faith in Chan's ability to groom and develop his QB's? :laugher:

I agree with your assessment, but I'll go a step further. He's had to overcome poor recruiting in his early years (totally his fault, but has completely turned that around), flunkgate (which was not his fault) and probation (again not his fault)

I don't think a change right now is in the best interest of the program, especially with the loss of so many starters, but I'm not fully behind Chan, either. He must let go of the offense or go himself.

There's really no reason to be debating this. The question will be answered on Saturday.

I agree, but basically GT92 is asking us to cast our ballots today and I'd prefer to wait until after Saturday. I seem to remember a young true freshman OLB of an 0-3 football team that told everyone to get ready for a win on an upcoming Saturday. Things really changed after that game. Let's keep an open mind guys and go knock UGA in the mouth.

"It is not the players, it is the coach."

It wasn't Coach Gailey who fumbled 4 times on Saturday.
