Really?

While Wake had a less than stellar season this year, you have to remember that before Grobe got there a 7-5 season would have been viewed as a borderline miracle.

I take more offense with the ranking of Beamer higher then Paul Johnson then I do with the ranking of Grobe as number 1. VPI is only the in Orange Bowl because we couldn't close the deal that early in the season, and neither Duke nor UVA showed up in the last two weeks. But whatever, it's her opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Heather the Great commenting on David Cutcliffe: "He is an SEC coach who can X-and-O with the best of them."

uhhhh.....no he isn't.

While I feel like the whole list is bunk, I can't wait to see the tar heel fans reactions to Davis getting 8th. lmao.

Grobe has more ACC Championships than CPJ. At a school that is more difficult to recruit and has less resources - if I'm not mistaken, they have the smallest enrollment of any d1-A school (I just read the article which indicates that the are the smallest BCS school).

He was head coach of Ole Miss for six years. It's just a little more SEC over ACC bias, implying that SEC coaches are a better breed. At least that's what it seemed like to me.

I don't take offense to the list. Grobe is a good coach, and, like it or not, VT is ACC Champs for the second year running. Beamer deserves whatever rank he gets.

Yeah Frank Beamer really sucks. Two straight ACC championships and only 4 division titles in 5 years. If he loses his 3rd BCS Bowl game in 6 years he'll only have seven 10+ win seasons in the last 10 years.

Boy is he overrated. OVER-RATED CLAP CLAP CLAP OVER-RATED CLAP CLAP CLAP

Bit of an unfair comparison since Grobe has more ACC Championships than CPJ has years coached in the ACC.

Give it time and I bet we see the numbers get a little closer.

I always thought it went more like "(insert 4 syllables) clap clap clapclapclap"

Who are you putting below Davis on that list?

No way I'd put him above Grobe, Beamer, CPJ, or Jags.

Maybe Cutcliffe, O'Brien or Bowden, but I'm not even sure I could justify that.

I not really bothered by this.

Grobe - Beamer - Johnson --I could make an argument for any one of the three.

Based on what they have accomplished as college football coaches over the last five years, I would rank the ACC coaches as follows:
1. Beamer
2. Grobe
3. Johnson
4. Jagodinski
5. Friedgen
6. Bowden
7. O'Brien
8. Davis
9. Cutcliffe
10. Groh (this is probably too low for him)
11. Shannon
12. Swinney

I think with a better season than WFU next year CPJ passes Grobe. If he wins our division and the ACC, he could pass Beamer. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the conference.

who cares what she thinks? I know CPJ doesn't. All he cares about is winning the next game. If he continues to take care of business on the field, all the off the field positive coverage will take care of itself.

I,for one, am glad that Heather is not taking BOTD pictures. PJ is #2 in the worst case scenario.

The fact that she picked the right three guys at the top puts her ahead of half of CFB writers, in my book.

I'm okay with the order -- and if you read HD's other stuff you can see she has a huge crush on PJ. Hell, she apparently posted a comment in the AJC beat blog defending him the other day.

Those are the three guys in the ACC who have proven they can create championship programs from the table scraps of college football. Not many other coaches in the nation have done that.

The fact that a 7-5 season is a disappointment at Wake Forest speaks volumes about Jim Grobe. The dude is the best coach in the history of his school and has done a miraculous job there. 27 wins in 3 seasons is amazing.

He's had a lot of success as OC in the SEC as well as a good run at Ole Miss. Don't underestimate Cut as a coach...if we had hired him we would now think he was great.
