Reasons to be worried?

It seems all the news out of practice is turning to a negative feel whether it be CPJs comments or injuries or lack of effort. Is there reason to be concerned or do you think CPJ's quotes are more him motivating through criticism?

The job of the head coach is to identify problems and work to correct them. I'm glad he focuses on the bad things. When we win a couple championships, he can talk about how great the team is.

Plus, I might imagine that in a scrimmage if the offense isn't scoring on every drive and the defense is allowing first downs then he will be displeased. Just seems like the kind of coach he is (in a good way).

I have a good friend that is a Naval Academy graduate. He says that PJ was always like that at Navy with the media and the team. He will accept no less than perfection, so when you inevitably come up short, you are that much closer to it.
What you are reading in the paper is called coaching. He doesn't give a damn about what the media or fans think, he wants to get a point across to the team. Hell, they asked him about Dwyer and he said he could work on his blocking! He is the reigning ACC POTY, 1400 yards 7 ypc, and he can still find something to improve. I love having a perfectionist as a HC.

Isn't CPJ pretty negative a lot of the times, even when he's winning? I think that's a good coach. I'd be worried when Dwyer or Nesbitt get injured.

Paul Johnson doesn't strike me as the overly optimistic type. He's going to find something wrong with the way the team is playing, no matter what. That mentality is another reason why I love him as our coach, because you'll get the same vibe from roughly 96.4% of the engineers we produce.

Coaches never feel their team is working to the best of their ability. Otherwise, he'd just come out and let everyone know that we are flawlessly running the flexbone, see you in Pasadena January 7.

Good coaches never feel that way. For examples of those that do feel that way, see the CGE.

Love the optimism, but not sure about th wrkin to correct them.

Johnson did say Tevon Washington shined in the last practice/scrimmage, so that's definitely some good news.

It sounds like our coach knows what he is doing. Someone like Tevin Washington, who hasn't played yet, can use a confidence boost. Somebody like JD, upon a huge chunk of our chances for success rests, has played and needs to avoid complacency.
