Recruiting Surprises

I'm guessing the source is Scout Insiders board, but I don't know what that board actually says.

Looks like CPJ told Dontae not to take any more visits. Failure to do so would result in his spot being taken away. Dontae agreed, then went to Auburn anyway. *poof* no longer has offer from GT.

That's just what's being posted on the insider forum.

Its being leaked out that Aycock is NOT coming to GT. Apparently he went on his recruiting trip to Auburn inspite of making some promises to our coaches that he was solid to GT and wouldn't visit anyone else. That's at least what is being reported. Normally, I don't share insider information but since this is being discussed here, I figure we may as well clear it up before people start assuming the worst.

NO WAY! Good for PJ if this is true. You gotta stand by your word.

Wow... this sucks if true, though.

I guess everyone can get off the Dontae Aycock bandwagon and start talking about how good Luallen is going to be.

Yeah, I totally agree... I'd hate us to close the door on a great prospect (especially if he still wants GT the most after visiting Auburn) on a matter of principle.

I just hate the thought of losing Aycock. I had visions of that kid destroying Georgia linebackers and secondaries. Oh, well. We still have Sims and Luallen :D

If we beat Georgia, I don't care if Richard Simmons is running the offense.

I would actually be far happier if we beat Georgia with Richard Simmons being our Quarterback. It would say a lot about our system. And 'Sweating to Oldies' Vol. 1-3.

Also, the 2010 prospects > Aycock.

Too bad. The kid would have made a great option QB. He'll be missing out on a great education as well if he doesn't go to Tech.

If CPJ is ok with sticking to his guns on this one, I am cool with it. Looked like a great prospect, but obviously if he was a can't miss we wouldn't be doing this. Not going to be one of those "we never really wanted him anyways" kind of guys, but I trust CPJ to make the right decisions for the program, and I think we'll be ok.

Could also position us differently for next year when we have fewer ships to give out. CPJ can point to this and say that he means business, and he expects the same out of our recruits...

I'm on the fence about this one. On one hand you want to recruit kids that stick to their word and respect your wishes once "committed". On the other hand, do 17-18 year old kids really know what they want? As a person that has experience of a recruiting trip, its F-ing awesome. You are treated like royalty for 36 straight hours with beautiful girls by your side the whole time. I would recommend to any recruit to take all 5 visits, even if they had already made up their mind. You only get 1 chance in your life to do it.
Oh well....the whole situation sucks, but I don't think CPJ would cut off his nose to spite his face. We'll be ok with Josh, Jaybo, Jordan, and Sims. GO JACKETS!

I do not agree with our coaches on this one.

Same here, depending on how this was handled. If he told our coaches that he wouldn't take any more trips and then tried to go without them finding out, then that would be different, I don't blame them. I can't blame a kid for wanting to take an extra trip to another school, though. At this point it's not like we would've given the ship to someone else...or would we have? hmmm

My guess is that CPJ doesn't want any player who isn't truly committed when he says he is. If a player doesn't know the true meaning of commitment, then he could have problems at Tech as well as later in life.
