Recruiting Update?

Anyone care to talk about Jonathan Davis? I hear he's a stud, despite being only 5'8" or so.

He'd be a great pick up, I believe. A versatile player, he could either add to a plethora of young LBs, or could end up in the offensive backfield. According to the interview, CPJ told him could be a factor at either spot next year.

Jonothan Davis is a powerhouse.

Here's an AJC article on Jonathan Davis, a LB/RB prospect with great speed.

4* scout prospect. Hadn't heard his name associated with Tech previously, but the article sounds very promising.

Forget Jonathan Davis. He's an athletic stud but he still hasn't made out out of high school at 19 or 20 years old. He's not real smart and he's at least one, if not two, years behind where he should be. Won't even sniff North Ave.

I see your point, but if he were as academically iffy as you say, I don't think CPJ would have invested much in the guy.

So why did PJ offer him then?

If CPJ is interested in Jonathan Davis, then CPJ has not seen his high school academic record. Like I've said JD is a stud - he's only about 5-8, about 210 of solid muscle, and runs an easy 4.45. He wouldn't last a semester at GT without 24/7 tutoring. And that's if he could get in school.

PJ has offered him?

That which is in bold type and italicized was my first reply but getting the impression that you might have read about an offer somewhere, I decided to go to the AJC's website and lo' and behold there does seem to be an indication that we've offered JD a scholarship. You all should read the accompanying blog to see what I was referring to with JD's classroom issues. Unless the staff has some real good reasons to believe that JD has a chance in the classroom, then this is a big chance to be taken with him. We are good friends with the family of JD's best friend at his previous HS. Like I said before he is at least one, if not two years behind in school - for a good reason. I realize that redemption is possible with us all and I truly wish it could be while being at GT. But this is a big time gamble.

well it's good to know we're getting reliable 3rd hand info...

We desperately need a few WRs...that was obvious in the VT game after we lost BeBe. We have no depth there.

I was under the impression that we only offered kids we know are going to get past the hill and qualify. That was the way it was under the previous staff and I would hope that would still be the case.

So how close to graduation is he, what's his GPA, has he taken the SAT yet and if so what's his score? Cause anything short of that is just rumor.

We wouldn't offer if he wasn't going to qualify. They have been watching him for a while. His grades are in order and will be a full qualifier.
