Today we got another commit and we lost a guy on the squad due to transfer. Does that mean we can take 13 now?

Taken so far:

QB - 0
AB - 1
BB - 0
OL - 2
WR - 1 Transfer

DE - 1
DT - 2
LB - 0
S - 2
CB - 2

- You can never have more than 85 on scholarship at a time.
- You cannot put on scholarship more than 25 players during one class....you can sign tons of letters of intent...but that just starts the process prior to academic admission, physicals, etc. Only 25 per class can be on scholarship.
- January enrollees can count toward the previous class or the class coming in later that year in the fall.
- Scholarships are one year renewables...GT has never taken one away that I can remember.

This years situation:
- We have 80 on scholarship now including Chris Jackson. This is 5 short of the max.
- We have 6 scholarship seniors this year (Voss, Howard, Sellers, Griffin, Hill, and Frierson). This creates 6 more openings for next fall as their eligibility runs out in the spring.
- Zach Krish, a reshirt junior on scholarship, has already indicated that he will depart the program upon graduation this June. This creates 1 more opening.
- As of today.... 5 open spots + 6 graduating seniors + 1 player leaving eaerly = 12 open spots to come in fall of 2010 as of 8/03/09.
- There will certainly be attrition over the next 12 months either due to academics, injury, transfer, NFL, etc...this is why the coaches may take more than 12 (not much more)commitments knowing that something will clear up before fall of 2010.

You really do not want to be at 85 max because you want to have room to reward walk-on's and take transfers...always keeping one or two open. However, we are willing to carry 85 next year to try and get some balance back to the recruiting class as this years is small...and next years is 21 at minimum.

Good. I wasn't sure which one he would get a shot at first. I think he will stay at B back.

Since we also found out a cornerback will be transferring at some point in the next year, do we raise that number to 13?

He just keeps getting bigger and is bigger than JD entering his senior year.

Last year Perkins played at 190, and he is already up to 207 of solid muscle. He is a weight room madman.

That's really good as we will need another B back soon.

I'm hoping we can get everything in order with Ryan White.

If you watch his videos, Charles Perkins is definitely a B-back. He goes from zero to full speed almost instantaneously, but he is not the fastest guy with greta moves. He'll be perfect at B-back.

Recruiting and "program building" are such complex activities. We are lining up to have 21 slots open for the 2011 class. Just imagine how that group of 21 might differ if in 2010 Tech goes 10-2, wins the conference and a BCS bowl compared to a 7-5 season, a lost to Georgia, then a mediocre bowl. Night and day. Giff Smith and the staff do a tremendous job, but the impact of the team's recent performance as it relates to future optimism is huge. How great to have recruits in the stadium as we pound Virginia Tech as compared to them seeing a last second field goal sail wide right for a loss.

I noticed scout that Pat Swilling Jr doesn't have an offer from us. Did I miss something because I thought he had an offer at one time. I asked this on the other board but it might be one of those insider, pinky swear, hush, hush things that they can't talk about.:laugher:
