Recruiting

Jeez, how freaking original. Somebody remind me, this is the 4897th time we've had this stupid thread?

That'd be about right. They'll be many more leading up to February - for some reason.

I agree JJacket....Adairsville is quite nice. I'm up here in Dalton and love to visit your town. Nice place!

We don't top 25 classes but I know of a lot of schools that do that wouldn't mind having our track record in college football as well!

JJ, Barnsley Gardens, what a great place. i took my wife there for an anniversary and we had a ball.

After dinner we drove a golf cart all over the place about midnight. Needless to say they didn't like it but we all got a great laugh.

I didn't know it had been bought again, but i will say this it was one of the nicest golf courses i have played in quite some time.

Thanks JD. I'm sure they backed down pretty quick when you flashed the guns and they realized they had a celebrity staying there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Mr. Saul and several others bought the place last year. Must have been flush with money when Shaw sold to Berkshire Hathaway.

I love this town. Lots of growth going on and in planning. I just wish some more Tech fans would move here. Really outnumbered by mutts.

I don't take slamming my town or my Jackets very well.

Still remember like it was yesterday sitting in the North stands when we beat highly ranked Clemson when you were there. I was a high schooler at the time and went into the game afraid we were about to get blown out.

I hear what you are saying, but if you think we will ever be able to recruit on an even playing field with LSU and USC West, you're f***ing crazy!

Call me a Polyanna, but I think we CAN recruit with all of them. It will just take a committment to do so, and a committment to change some things.

Sure. Things like academic requirements, curriculum, and integrity.

I'm with you Contact. To believe we can't recruit with the likes of LSU is admitting that only those kids that don't want an education are skilled enough to win championships.

Once again, I don't let Rivals, et al decide for me what a great recruit is.

Okay, you're Polyanna.

How about making some suggestions instead of empty comments. What do you mean by commitment, and what is it you think we need to (and can) change. It's easy to make comments, how about something constructive?

Sorry to butt in, but I have this nervous energy before 3:30.
I don't know what commitment means, but I can only think that changes would refer to the Hill.

Coach Gailey has proved that Ga. Tech can recruit well enough to win at the college level. If the "follow the stars" recruiting analysis was accurate, we would never win a game. The fact that we do, and have now qualified for the post season the last nine years should strike a mighty blow to these recruiting gurus.
Once again, the 5 star guys like Calvin Johnson are as apparrant today as Herschel Walker was before "Rivals". 97% of all other college bound ball players fall below these guys. Some are better than others of course, but very few are locks. That's where personal character and coaching take over.

At places like Tech, we just don't normally know what kind of recruiting class we have had for a year or two. That's fine with me.

Re: Head

Same conditions will continue to be in place and things will not get any better.

Re: Head

This Recruiting talk is non-sense. It doesn't matter who we get in February as long as the Coach wins with them in the Fall. Stars/Rankings are bogus and these guys are making millions off of them.

Re: Head

By the way UVA, I'm sad to report, has had 4 top 25 classes in a row.

What's your point? They're coached by the Jets old coach and they can't get ranked in the top 25 and have lost to worse teams than we have.

There's a lot of parity in college football recruiting.

You won't feel this way AFTER we play MIAMI and UGAG!

Those recrootin' services ranking systems DO MEAN A LOT!

Look no further than USCw and UT(the real one)!

Re: Head

As long as the Hill has the current restricitions in place it will take even more time to build a program at GT than ever before and WE TECH fans do not seem to have the patience to allow a coach to build our program.

We have NEVER been able to get the kind of players that the mutts and miami have. What makes anyone think that if we've never been able to get those players in the past, we can just snap our fingers and get them now with even more road blocks in front of us.
Unless some things change at GT it's not going to happen, no matter who the coach is.

How do you know things will not get better?

CJ, to answer your question I don't but my opinion is from experience as a parent and coach in the recruiting process.
