This topic has gone around and around the past few days after I started a thread talking about possible coming GT uniforms. Many have understood my point, others have found it ridiculous. I have read numerous articles throughout the past few years stating that the "cool" and "in style" uniforms of schools helps lure young 18 year old student athletes. Many ADs are of this opinion throughout the country.

Here is one article: LINK

By the way, we wore black vs UVa last year in hoops because the team was begging to wear it and they desperately want to wear it this year on the road.

One thing I have truly learned from all the great responses, athletes and alumni do not agree on what they should wear. UGa wore black pants a couple of times under Donnan because the players wanted it. They had the black stripe on the helmet because the players wanted it. They also wanted to wear black jerseys, but the AA vetoed that idea. In essence, players want to look "cool", alumni & fans want tradition. I lean towards tradition myself, but certainly understand the other view point.

This is my first post, so please be gentle...

I love the white uniforms. They are unique and good-looking. They should be what we normally wear, home and away.

BUT...

A change of pace every now and then can enhance the tradition beyond the uniform. For instance, wouldn't it be great to wear the blue jerseys and white pants for our Homecoming game vs. Virginia? It might give them flashbacks, too.

Regarding uniforms, I like to see something new every so often. I loved the look of the black basketball jerseys, but that particular change is bad because THOSE ARE WAKE FOREST'S COLORS!!! DON"T STEAL ANOTHER CONFERENCE SCHOOLS COLORS!. *#&#@VE#.

GT's accent color was black on the uniforms before Ross changed it to blue in 1987. GT wore white jerseys w/black numerals and gold & black stripes on the sleeves. The gold pants had two black stripes with a white center stripe. Wake copied us, not visa versa.

Well, just found out that Nebraska, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are also debuting new "new wave" uniforms this year in football. Though I doubt they are as extreme as Oregon or Maryland. I am also hearing from more and more sources that we'll be in Nike uniforms come opening day 2003 vs Auburn.

Also, Tech's accent color throughout the '40s, '50s, '60s under Dodd was Navy blue, not black. Curry put us in blue ve Uga in '81 and then switched us to black in '82 through '86. Ross returned us to blue. I'm cool with white & gold only with blue as an accent. If we ever wear a blue or black jersey, I prefer blue, but that's just me. What's interesting is when we use black everybody thinks Wake, but Maryland uses black too. Maryland has the most bizare uniform colors ever. Their colors are Red & White and Black & Gold (see their state flag). So, through the years in football and basketball they have been known to switch from a red/white color scheme to black/gold and back again. Some years they even used red/black. They are pretty mixed up.

I (and you will too...you know, now admit it) will root for our Jackets if they ran out in pink poka dot uni's. Separating yourself from what's in the head of a 17-18 year old is important if you truly want to understand the game called recruiting. I'm not suggesting whole sale changes. Even Duke basketball went to black jerseys a few years ago for their road games. These kids grow up in an Eastbay.com catalog world where the current style has lots of options. (speaking from experience having a very athletic 14-yr-old myself) Tech should list certain traditions that can't be farged with (gold helmet for example) which are trademarks associated with our program - just like UT's helmets. Then make a list of little things which players can make more attractive for themselves as well as to potential recruits. After all, last time I looked it *IS* the players who commit to and then play for Tech.

P.S. FSU is going to a new "retro look" this fall. As they are once again beating the snot out of everybody and probably dominating the ACC I bet most Techies and the nation for that matter won't be thinking about their "look" - only thinking about how good those guys are.
