I was a student for that game and that's one of the most frustrating losses I witnessed at Tech (2013 UGA and 2012 Miami up there). Without the punch, we win the coastal and potentially beat Clemson again in ACCCG. Then play West Virginia in the Orange Bowl instead of choking away 2 TD lead to Utah in Sun Bowl.

would've, should've, could've and ifs & buts.

It doesn't matter how good Duke was in 2014. It's that losing to them and the Heels 2IAR tarnished what would've-could've-should've been a CFP-berth season or something akin to 1990. As much as 2014 is touted around here, it's really the END of 2014 that people like to remember. After the beginning, no one here believed it'd end like that. Unlike 1990, when we never actually lost.
And no, GOL and the Fridge weren't better with this. It's why I put 'em all in the same category, underneath Ross. And all above Gailey.

I guess the range of likes/dislikes/Big Cry shows that it’s all subjective. For myself, I take the remarkable accomplishments and don’t care how we get them. I personally liked the Triple Option offense. I liked that it was very technical, that you could change the blocking assignment of one person and go from a 0 gain to a touchdown.

Any offense is painful to watch when you don’t have the skill position players to make it go. A good example was Reggie Ball - due to injury or whatever other reason his completion percentage got worse every year and the offense became hard to watch. When Justin Thomas was running the TO and Shaq Mason was blocking’s and we had WRs that could at least make an NFL roster, the offense was lights out and were one of the top teams in the country and producing big plays.

Yeah, no one expected the year to end that way after the losses. But it did. If only we could have covered O'Leary (the FSU TE).

I can't remember a season when we finished as well. I think Clemson, MSU, and uga all finished in the top 12.

I think O'Leary (GT) is remembered more fondly than CPJ because he put together good seasons back to back. Johnson had that chance with Thomas as QB, but 2015 happened.

I'm not sure he is remember more fondly. I expect it is about the same: you can't deny Johnson's great years and O'Leary never quite got there BUT O'Leary did have a great run and beating UGA 3 years in a row was something special. That is probably why O'Leary is remember fondly more than anything else.

O'Leary quit on us when he was in the middle of it so I'll always ding him for that. Johnson retired at a good time for the program and allowed us to move on with little downside; I'll always give him props for that.

The option already came back and upset GT at home in week 3. That said, this thread is about the obsession with O'leary, he really isn't coming back.

It sounds like we already have the excuses set up for the next 3 to 5 years. The first two to three years will be the rebuilding years, and then after that it'll be the we can never find a good OC years.

And, of course, all of this will be CPJ's fault.

No one is going to like it but I'm going to say it. If video review was available in the 90s it's likely Tech loses to ugaly in 98 and 99 and everything discussed here would be totally different.
 
O'Leary was at the game today. I spotted him on the sidelines in the second half in a gold blazer.
 
3 in a row. CPJ is a dumpster coach who had his greatest success with Gaileys NFL players. ACCCG are irrelevant, they weren't around during O'Fridge era. But full on F$U was ...

And they probably would have lost at least one to us when a ball was taken from a dead pile and returnedfor a TD ( if I remember correctly)

2017 was a tough year to watch and 2018 first 4 games had me crying on my wife's shoulders. I really enjoyed 2016 and the LV , VPI, and Virginia games made 2018. It seemed liked no one showed up for the 2018 bowl game (everyone else one knew a dead coach walking also meant a dead team walking).

I guess I need to go find the O'Leary years and watch them if available. His last 4 seasons had great records
