Regarding Tickets, African Americans

Honestly, I think it all goes back to the feeling by non-GT alums of elitism in the GT community.

Holy smokes I actually agree with GTKyle!!

Some GT fans need to get that "high and mighty" off their attitude. Nothing wrong with being proud. That's GREAT! BUT, this elitism, as GTKyle stated, really rubs people the wrong way.

I agree with GTKyle as well. My ex-girlfriends dad is an electrical engineer who is a UT grad. When he asked me who I pulled for and I said GT, he informed me he hated GT because their grads acted like they were better than every body else.

I think this emanates from the hatred we have with UGA and yes it certainly is something we can improve on. BUT, back to topic:

Where can I find studies on how much money is spent on sports entertainment for whites versus blacks. And if it is available, is it sport specific.

I must admit that I thought we had 19% blacks at Tech and not 7%. Do the old southern universitities have a disconnect from blacks going back to segregation, etc? But even if so, I still would Tech way ahead of all the other southern universities for race issues.

I just left a customer and one contact who played at a HBC follows Miami. But it's wavering, so I can see the whole "winning takes care of everything" issue. (By the way, as I left he yelled "Go Jackets", since he knew I was headed to Atlanta for the next two games.) Anyway, he and his friends follow Div 1 ball .

But I just don't see any participation at BDS and I really don't understand it. Do we portray old southern white university to the community?

When it comes to major sports, what's the difference? It's not like I'm cheering for the Kennesaw State <insert mascot here> ;)

Because it's a completely different demographic. My guess is that almost everyone in the city who does not have a direct tie to one of the universities is a Falcons fan and doesn't pay much attention to college football(or doesn't care about football period). Take a look at any other major program in a city with an NFL team...they all struggle to draw like we do. The battle for sidewalk fans won't be fought in the city of Atlanta(the source of most of the black population), it will be fought in the suburbs such as Marietta. It's not a race issue, it's a location issue, really.

Wait...you're saying that Tech people aren't better than everyone else? I thought it was a scientifically proven fact. ;)

Everybody is overlooking the simplest and biggest explanation: UGA wins more. Would the typical person on the street go for the #10 team or the #25 team?

That and the Falcons probably have captured blacks moreso than whites.

heh and more importantly UGA has owned the rivalry.. don't expect much support from folks for the underdog in town.
