This is a no brainer decision.

Tech fans want Reggie on the field, just not as QB. Tech is desperate for safeties next year. Reggie actually has a chance to play at the next level as a safety. Reggie isn't going to take us anywhere at QB so go ahead and see if you get lucky with Garner as a freshman.

Is he big enough for safety? I don't know if he's physical enough for the position...cornerback maybe.

I don't think Reggie is quick enough for CB. We need safeties and Reggie likes putting out the hits so I think he's best suited there. I'm guessing that Reggie is 5'10" and weighs 180 pounds, but may be able to bulk up to 195.

I will say that Tenuta plays a whole lot of zone defense and theoretically Reggie could possibly handle that type of defense at CB. We're going to have a long season next year if we don't find two safeties and two cornerbacks AND one quarterback.

We have options at QB, but not a whole lot is going on at the defensive backfield. Reggie needs to move there, return punts, and play on special teams. He'd be great in these roles in my opinion.

In fact, I don't know one Tech fan that doesn't like Reggie or doesn't believe in his heart, and this option fills multiple needs for our team.

By the way, if I was the coach, I'd also bring Reggie back over to the offense and be a Slash type player every now and then. Gosh can you imagine the options and excitement our offense could immediately generate?

We need QBs more than we need Ss. We don't have anyone else that is even close to being as good as Reggie.

Therein lies the problem.

Then we're screwed. I just don't think it's possible to have a good offensive team when you complete less than 50% of your passes.

Hopefully the fourth year will be the charm like it was for the awbern kid Cambell.

Question is was it the plays they ran or the QB coaching he got that turned it around.

No QB on the roster even close to RB? That's hard to comprehend that Garner could not complete 48% of his passes. Garner at 6-4" could see the whole field and throw over the middle. I think we've all seen all there is to see with Ball. I agree Ball's only chance at the next level is at saftey, why not move him now?

Safety? Maybe a run-support specialist in the defensive secondary, but I would fear his pass coverage abilities.

My thought would be a slot back. I think we should study how the Steelers utilize Antwaan Randle El and try and pattern Reggie's contribition in that mold.

He could also be used as a change of pace QB. When we would put him in, he could either run, or roll out and pass.

Reggie could be a great player for Tech. He's just not in the correct position.

I give up. We have a poor pass blocking OL, poor passing scheme, poor WR coaching, and all this board can say is "it's all Reggie's fault that our offense is so bad."

Reggie is not all-ACC material, but he has at least average college QB skills, especially if he was coached. Is the fact that he has not improved as a passer in 3 years his fault, or is it a lack of coaching?

Go back to watching the NFL with your friends in the media, where your QB observations might be true. You don't start to understand college football.

This is the gray area that opens up a lot of debate, we won't know untill another QB goes under the system and we are able to compare. That being said I think Reggie can be an above average Div-I QB if the right package is run for him (I'm in no way hinting we go full option here but a few more rollouts and QB draws on a 3 receiver set can be a great wrinkle), I wished I had seen the WV game yesterday to be able to compare Pat White's system against an SEC defense (don't know how many sacks he took which would explain if his 77 rushing yards could have been 100+) and wonder once again how Reggie would play in it.

Apparently no one watched the Auburn game or the UConn game. The UConn game, our weakest opponent, showed how poor our OL is at pass blocking. If we had a less mobile QB than Reggie, we would be even less productive on offense.

In the Auburn game we threw over the middle and made Auburn defend the entire field. By the end of this year, the staff apparently forgot that throwing over the middle is legal.

So, I don't need to see another QB or the spread option. I need to see an OL that can pass block and a scheme-any scheme-that puts pressure on the defense, keeps them off balance, and takes what they are giving up.

Other than the pass to Cooper that went for a TD, our offense in the Emerald was same old-same old, and easy to prepare for and defend. I am sure that Utah was shocked when we threw to the TE-especially Cooper- on a delay.

Well I think the UConn game can't be taken that seriously, Bennet only had a few hours to prepare and it was only one game so I think that can't be much to make an assesment on.

The O-line is a weakness, and we all know this but they are young and undersized, an offseason of proper strenght and conditionting should take care of the problem, or at least aleviate it to the point were it is not the concern that it is right now.

And I too would like to see Reggie throw over the middle, heck CJ and D-Bo have the perfect frame for pocession receivers but CCG doesn't do it.

Jacketup, I understand your frustration. But please consider something else. Reggie has played exactly the same for three years now. During that time, we've had two very good OL's and one young one. It really hasn't mattered in how Reggie plays.

But more importantly please look at the plays we run, regarding throwing (and we rarely run the option so Reggie isn't really a running QB):

1) Reggie backs up 10 yards and throws a long bullet. He's not bad at this quite frankly, but this long delivery, extra yardage backwards creates problems: It allows DB's to recover and it definitely allows DE's to break down the pocket.

2) Reggie runs the rollout and throws. This has been very ineffective simply because it's hard to do.

3) Reggie runs the bootleg and throws to the TE (generally) in the other direction. It's a simple pass and works okay, but you need more.

4) Reggie throws the comeback ten yards down the field from a five step drop. This is his best pattern and most effective but again we need more.

Now let's look at what Reggie doesn't do:
1) He never steps up in the pocket except the Auburn game. Every game further from the August workouts gets worse.

2) He never ever hits the long pass. If you can't stretch the field you make life tough.

3) He never throws to a receiver in stride.

4) He never throws effectively over the middle (he's too short to do this).

5) He never audibles, because he can't.

6) He never goes through his reads.

He is the perfect quarterback for a team to hold down in a ball control offense like Chan's. His time is up, I don't care if we lose 12 games next year. Give the damn ball to Garner, et al.

AND use Reggie for what he is. Make a new Slash out of him, get him the damn ball, but not only out of the QB position.

And I appreciate your frustration, but what makes you think a new body at QB will change anything?

I read an interview this weekend with Todd Ellis, former SC QB and play by play man for SC. He talked about Spurrier constantly harping on mechanics. He said that you can complete 10 straight passes, but if your mechanics are off, Spurrier will correct you.

Do you believe tha Reggie is getting this level of coaching? Three years of no improvement as a passer says that he has tools, but that he is not being coached. A new QB will be the same deal, unless we find a kid whose father is a QB coach. Are there any more Mannings?

You are correct that this scheme isn't taking advantage of Reggie's ability. But once more, isn't this a coaching issue? The real reason that Reggie starts is because, with the pass blocking (or lack of it) that we have, it would be really ugly with Garner et al. back there. Starting Reggie is more a matter mitigating the OL's inability than it is taking advantage of Reggie's abilities--perhaps the worst of all worlds.

Several of them were Jackson. If RB has the skill of throwing over defenders close to him, he chooses not to do it. Instead, it looks like he is trying to throw somebody out at first from shortstop.

If you notice, the only throws that RB puts air under the ball are on the corner fades to CJ. He accomplishes this by dropping his right shoulder and throwing off his back foot. It's more of a launch than a throw.

Jacketup, I'm sorry if you find this insulting. I promise you I wish RB could throw the ball with some feel, but after three years I think its evident he doesn't have this natural ability. This isn't something that can be taught. People either have it, or they don't.
