Regular season nonconference games vs. Ranked opponent

Nice to see 5 ACC teams with at least 5 games. Although having a non-conference football factory as an in-state skews the results a bit.

Everyone already knows the SEC's counter argument to this.

What's that, to roll over and suckle on one another's cox?

That's so funny about the SEC. As much as UGA Alabama, and all other SEC teams "hate" each other, as soon as one wins the championship it's like they all spooge in their pants as if they had just done it themselves. It's the weirdest thing. One weekend UGA fans HATE Florida and LSU, and then the next, they're bragging about how they won the last 3. Unbelievable.

Do we do that with basketball? I'm a Tarheel fun as I grew up in NC, but were all of you guys super excited to see UNC win it?

Yes. I love the ACC being known as the best basketball conference and I really want that national title to stay in it. Just like I'd be thrilled if VT won the BCS Title(although it would be tough to get over the fact that they'd have gone through us...).

1.) Pride in team
2.) Pride in conference

If you don't have those two, then what's it matter? You must have pride in team for obvious reasons. You must have pride in conference, because at the end of the day, if you own 11 sister mary's school for the blind teams, then what have you proved? You want to be the best, and as the old adage goes, to be the best you have to beat the best.

I'm sorry, but it's hard to pull for FSU, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, NCSt, Duke, and Miami.

BC, Wake, and Maryland don't bother me as much, probably because I have had little or no significant fan encounters. (Actually I remember BC fans being very gracious while they were beating the Chan out of us two years back.) Obviously Duke's football team is not as hated as the Ratface Mafia that occupies their basketball shack.

I usually only root for ACC teams ooc because I hate whomever they are playing even more, especially if it's an SEC team. I will pull for FSU to beat Florida, but if FSU plays, say, the Rice Owls? I say **** the Noles! HOOT HOOT HOOT!

That situation(ECU beating VT) is one of the things that destroyed our conference's perception last year. It may be hard to root for them, but a situation like that really is terrible for us.

Not to mention that when your ACC champion has 4 losses, that's not a good booster to ANYONE in the conference.

The ACC champion should (in my opinion) have NO out of conference losses.

We should learn from SEC fans on this and watching non-conference match-ups becomes a win-win. Believe me, the hatred of teams in the SEC runs pretty deep, especially between the usual powers - LSU, Tenn, UGA, Fla, Auburn, Alabama. As an old Auburn fan I assure you they would enjoy watching any of those rivals lose any time to any one. You will not find LSU, Auburn, or Tennessee fans cheering for the Tide on Saturday night. But, when they win they can play the conference pride card and talk about how tough the SEC is.

We should do the same. Watching our division rivals get whacked by Bama should be fun. Watching those horrible fans at NCSU get waxed by Spurrier should be enjoyable. But, wins by VPI and NCSU have a plus side, it is good for the ACC. So, sit back and enjoy. Either outcome has its upside.
