Richard Watson comments on CG...

Well, if this is so important, maybe ccg should not have waited 4 years (or however long) to hire a real RC.

Maybe he should not have had 51 - 7, Duke, etc.

It is always the fault of someone else, never ccg.

Maybe he should realize the team he needs to beat.

But he, and you, will not.

The fact that Lockhart and Watson didn't even know about this puts a damper on the whole "recruits read message boards" argument.

You are not following me Knox....I have been clear in saying that the media is increasingly using the boards from which to get "read or temperature"...and get material for articles. Therefore, it pushes the information out and makes it more available for use in negative recruiting.

Although I do know for a fact many recruits, parents, high school coachs, and current players that read these message boards and even subscribe to the premium boards...it is primarily just used more frequently "to gen up" stories for the mainstream media.

It would be nice if recruits picked only based on the school

That happens in some cases. In other cases, the recruit has a number of choices and the deciding factor between his top two or three is the coaching staff. Some kids like to know who they (at least in their minds) will be playing for when making a commitment.

As far as recruiting goes this year. I would not look for GT to gain additional commitments until the coaching situation is settle. If Radokovich does fire Gailey he needs to be prepared to do it the day after the UGAG game and he needs to be ready to hire a coach the following week. If we do get a new coach he must start immediatley if we are going to salvage the class. If Radokovich drags this deep into December, recruiting will suffer whether he fires gailey or keeps him. We need to have a quality class this year because this is a big class in terms of numbers and will represent more than 25% of our total scholarships.

There is still a long way to go this season. Sit back and enjoy. Remember it's a game.

83 I happen to think that if Chan gets canned this year and Drad doesn't have a replacement in place immediately, it will set us back once again. We are coming off of probation and desperately need a full class of 25 good players. Anything less and we enter an additional year of probation.

Okay, so which part of Dodd's story did he get from a message board? I am seriously missing your point of trying to link this situation to negativity on message boards.

The message boards create the overall "fire Gailey" atmosphere, which in turn promotes the belief that Dodd's story could be true and thus an overall greater interest in it, an interest which could cause an AJC reporter to try to find out the effect of the story. Too bad it didn't work that way with Reggie.

I appreciate the explanation but that's as thin as my hair.

Well I'm not saying I agree with it :). Although I would not be surprised to find out that beat writers do scour the forums looking for material. We're like investigative reporters ourselves, dredging up every possible nugget on GT football and organizing it all on the internet.

We know that the writers do as they have referenced "the Hive" multiple times this year for their stories. They have even quoted nameless posters and just listed their handles.

I agree it is silly...however we are even seeing this in politics and the business world where blogs and message board opinions are actually making the mainstream media.

To me it is very upsetting that a reporter from the dawg lovin' AJC can contact our recruits and inform them of a BS blog that has tremendous impact on their decision, when the recruits have never heard it before. Plus giving this "assinine" story credence as a member of the media. It's a case of trying to make the news rather than just reporting it to support their own interests. And you can bet the AJC will have another negative article on Tech recruiting within a month or two of signing day. They always do. This should be against NCAA regulations and the offending media should be banned from attending NCAA events.

I blame demjackets.

Clearly he must be Chan Gailey in disguise.

And you wonder why the administration never seemed very "media friendly". This article sucks and can do no good whatsoever...
