I live inTallahassee, and have had the privilege to know him. He loved Coach Dodd (my all time sports hero), and emulated a lot about him. He was as kind of a person as you will meet
 
I’ve seen many a celebrity in my life, but he was the only one that got me excited enough to speak to. I blurted out “Hey, Coach!” He stopped and said hi and patted my little girl on the head and said, “What a cutie.” And then he was gone.
 
I had the chance to hear him speak a couple of years ago at a banquet. Tremendous speaker even at his advanced age then

Bobby Bowden was a great College Football coach, but he was even a better person! He treated his players like they were his sons. Whether in defeat or in victory, he would ALWAYS take time to talk with the opposition's coach at the end of the game. He was gracious whether his team won or lost.
I remember in 1992, when Tech lost a close game to FSU, (I still believe one of the worst losses we ever had) he said on his coach's show, "Tech is very rich in football tradition. We were very fortunate to have beaten them." Also, in 2003, he brought up Clint Castleberry to the media when talking about Tech. He said he remembered listening to Castleberry play for Tech on the radio.

Bobby Bowden has completed his purpose in this life. He has now been called home. May the Good Lord be with his family and friends as they grieve the loss of a decent man.
