...but with the transfer portal, we may just be an offseason away if Key makes the right moves with players and staff.

Ole miss didn't become a Top 10 program just by making a good coaching hire. The hired Hugh Freeze and then used NIL to bring in a top recruiting class so blatantly that the NCAA had to make it legal (causation is a hell of a concept, prove me wrong). Time goes by and we play them tonight and it seems half the big plays are being made by guys who used to play for us. Worse: it seems like they've developed and gotten better since they were freshman and sophomore standouts for us.

I look around CFB and see 6th year players on their 3rd or 4th program contributing big time to the team's success.

Just look at what we were able to pull off this past offseason on offense. Who made our plays tonight? Transfers we bought and paid for, generally speaking.

So, here's the deal:
On offense, we need to transfer in a big bruising RB, a big split end type WR, another speedy WR, keep Singleton from transferring, and another TE. Probably wouldn't hurt to get another 2-3 guys on OL out of the portal.

On defense, we need to bring in 3 ready to start DTs and 2 DEs that have proven they can sack a QB. We desperately need a LB duo of equal caliber to Ace and Charlie. I think you bring in 6 new DBs (4 safeties, 2 corners) from the portal and they better have 20+ turnovers between them this season.

On ST, transfer kickers and punters have to be in the portal better than what we have, right?

On top of this, we need to hold our recruiting class in tact at a minimum. We're not in a position to play the # years to develop game, though, so let's get the guys who've got two years under their belt already who are either rotational guys at a Top 25 program or G5 starters looking to step up. We aren't going to be able to compete for many P5 starters, but I'm not saying we shouldn't try.

Is CBK going to give Santa a blowjob or something?

TLDR. Dion has 10 returning starters. Is that what you said?

I agree with you but there is a balance if you’re still recruiting hs seniors. The portal is a very good tool when you’re a new coach having to wholesale change your whole team. USC, Colorado, Ole Piss. This list goes on and on here. Keion W and Ace Eley were obtained through the transfer portal last year and made a huge impact. We were successful on the offensive side of the ball but we haven’t seen the same results on D like last year. Key has admitted that he does want to recruit and develop first but he will use the portal If/when needed.

So we are looking good in all positions besides OL, DL, TE, LB, Safety, RB, and DE?

The future’s so bright I’ve got to wear Deion’s shades lol

I don’t know if we can get all of that, but looking at programs at lower levels or other also-ran p5 for ballers is an option. keion came from ODU, Ace was from Maryland.
I think we tried with some guys on D, but it hasn’t come to fruition yet. Ace had an “okay” first season and Keion got hurt and was a no show. Ideally, we are looking for guys with at least two years left. It’s early yet, but maybe some of the transfers can still come into their own on D. Lord knows we need it

Did we have any transfers on D we were excited about? Only guy that pops off in my head was the linebacker from Minnesota

Is the 5 star from FL still on the team. I think some were excited about him.

don’t forget special teams. They’ve looked great outside of kicker, punter, holder, long snapper, kick coverage, punt coverage, and blocking

We get a D and we’re off to the races. With a D this team would have an 8-10 win season. CPJ went through numerous Def coordinators and we finally figured out it wasn’t the coordinators, it was the recruiting. Imagine how many more 8+ win seasons we would have had under CPJ if he could have recruited defensive personnel comparable to the talent he inherited from Gailey. CBK has to figure out how to attract these kids and I don’t want to hear the academic crap, Gailey did it.
