Roof in the running for Aub DC gig

i dont blame him for that, i blame him for his NFL mentality in a college game. does not fit at GaTech imo

yeah I don't really get why people hang Tenuta out to dry for giving up 24 points to the eventual #3 overall pick in that year's draft.

I was There as well, and i have never seen as much holding in my life as BC's Oline did in that game

So much this. They were called for tons of holding, and got away with just as much.

That's why I hate the way the holding penalty is counted off. 10 yards from LOS. That's easily better than taking a sack since you repeat the down.

Should be 10 yards from the spot of the foul.

BC got a lot of holding penalties earlier, then the refs swallowed their flags. The BC staff basically dared the refs to throw a flag on every play. The refs didn't and Chan didn't throw a fit every down like he should have.

Tenuta's success in 2003-06 hasn't been replicated at the other schools he has been at. Once the 2006 seniors left, the Tech 2007 defense was mediocre as well. The football outsiders rankings for 2007 confirm that.

To put defensive coaching versus offensive coaching in perspective, when was the last time you heard of a Mike Leach or Rich Rodriguez on the defensive side of the ball? By that, I mean when did a DC become a hot name because of a defensive scheme. Well-known defensive coaches include Nick Saban and Bob Stoops. Their success on the defensive side wasn't schematic, but hard-nosed coaching of execution of boring schemes.

I'm not saying scheme doesn't matter at all on the defensive side. It just can't overcome talent deficits like some schemes can on the offensive side.

How many P-5 teams have lost their DC last 2 seasons and how many of them have pursued Tenuta? I mean, per some posters here, he should be the current version of Bud friggin Carson or something.

Btw, the original point about the BC game was even an average QB with even a slightly above avg OL would expose JT for the blitz happy guy he was. It doesn't require a 3rd pick like Ryan.

Look, with a NFL calibre rush DE, along with a second team All conf DT and MLB, Tenuta, CTR, and 90% of major conf DCs would be effective.

Just your opinion GoldZ. I think with our talent deficiencies on the D side of the ball we are not going to win many of the up front match ups. That is why you have to pin your ears back and create havoc in the offensive backfield. Until we can build some more solid players on that side we need to try a different approach.

As I remember, BC the team was kinda mediocre, they just had a great QB. Weren't no secret how they were going to beat us. Seemed like a great DC woulda been able to limit Ryan more when it counted.

won't make a difference when the refs allow hugging on the field. maybe they're secretly hippies?

I don't think my first paragraph is just an opinion.

Well, both ND and UVa pursued Tenuta post GT. Those aren't bad jobs. The ND job even moved their DC out to make room for Tenuta (in responsibility if not name).

and then he was gone... to NCstate...

then 3 years later he was gone...to UVA..

what do you make of this?

to me, this resume does not indicate an upward trajectory. moving from an AHC to LB coach??? really, you think he was highly desired for his awesomeness?

2009 Notre Dame (AHC/DC/LB)
2010–2011 NC State (LB)
2012 NC State (AHC/LB)
2013–2014 Virginia (AHC/DC/LB)
2015 Virginia (AHC/DC/S)

here is a list of schools that i could see him at in the next few years:
South Carolina
Duke
Vanderbilt
West Virginia

I don't think my first paragraph is just an opinion.

Tenuta's personality has widely been cited for why he isn't wanted as a DC. He has interviewed a few times, but never makes it past the interview process.

I don't think he would be a good DC because he lacks many of the characteristics a good DC need to have. I do think that Gailey created an environment where he was able to limit the damage caused by Tenuta's shortcomings, and amplify Tenuta's abilities in scheme and coaching up his players.

Can someone please edit the thread title to "Roof now in running for LSU DC job"

Got to say:

Womacks D looking pretty good against the Cowboys.

Last 2 years. Many openings, huh? The stops you list must not have enamored him to other programs? It's not just his rotten persona---most programs just want the best D their money can buy, i.e. Pruitt and Foster.
