Roof to NC State

CPJ is funny. He already told us he was gone.

Has the guy with the option play avatar heard this yet? Someone should check on him.

Thought we might have a quiet offseason, but evidently not. Will be interested to see where Stansbury looks. Biggest hire of his early tenure here at Tech.

Sorry it didn't work out with Ted. I think this is the right move, but it wasn't all bad! Got us 2 wins against UGA, 3 wins against VT, etc. I'll always cherish the good times.

I felt he improved both the defense and the recruiting for it, but seemed hit the talent ceiling anyway. He's the best Johnson has had. His defenses hit hard, seemed solid fundamentally, and were very rarely embarrassed. Ultimately it's not about him, it's about quality players. Wommack looked pretty smart once he had Ole Miss's roster. Groh wasn't exactly a dummy.

Johnson needs to find someone like Tenuta. Yeah, yeah, I know--by that I mean someone who brings in an unorthodox approach the way Johnson does on the other side of the ball. Not necessarily blitz-heavy, but just something that negates the athletic differences. It's either that or figure out a way to recruit much better on that side. Coastal division isn't getting any easier.

another link because I can't see the one in the OP

Georgia Tech ranked third in the ACC this season (behind Clemson and Virginia Tech) in total defense versus ACC competition.

The Jackets ranked second in the league in third down defense vs. league competition (11th in the FBS), and 17th nationally in first downs allowed.

I would say this next DC hire is make or break for CPJ; but that's just my opinion.

Former Duke head coach Ted Roof, who has spent the past five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, will serve as NC State's co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach beginning Jan. 1, 2018.

So, did Roof get fired, did he leave for greener pastures, or was it simply mutual?

I definitely wasn’t happy about it when we hired him. I suppose he was encouraged to look elsewhere.
