Rumor vs Fact

Good Post Bugboy... there is no way to know how Mac would have done... just as this is to way to know how well a recruiter Gailey will be... Mac did a good job for one game... and I agree that does not merit his getting the HC job.. We have the right guy in place...

Bottom line is, while we may not agree on the merits of having Gailey as our coach, or the merits of the tactics that Braine used to choose him, we can agree that we are stuck with him for a while and hopefully he won't do the kind of harm that Bill Lewis did. Coach O'leary has left us with a great talent base, so hopefully the learning curve of this new staff won't interfere with the promise of a great season. The fact that this coaching upheaval was totally unnecessary just makes it a little harder to take.

We'll be good this year no matter who is coaching. Last year, we were good too, but should have been better. Really, I'm not worried about the new staff and their ability to relate to the players.

The most worrisome thing this year, IMO, is all the away games against teams that are tough rivals...UGA,Clem,UNC,NCSt,MD. All five of those are on the road and all have a chance to beat us. This is an even-numbered year (like 90, 98, 00), so maybe we'll surprise some folks and pull a 10-2 or 11-1 out of our hat.

Beeware

Were you really that happy with our "old" staff last year ? As I recal, we lost several games primarily due (IMO) to coaching....Playing not to lose..Prevent defense....Uninspired....etc etc...

We lost several games we should have won....
Against UGA, we didn't really even show up...

So what was SO great about our old staff ?
I mean, you would have FAR more valid arguements if we had gone 11-1, and/or gone to the BCS...
But coming off a VERY disappointing season, I don't see your infatuation with last years staff...UNLESS you are basing everything on ONE game, and I think that folly has been discussed ad nauseum

GoldRush,

Beeware won't be able to answer that. Unfortunately, he is not able to engage in critical repartee other than to say ad nauseum that he thought that Coach Mac was a positive leader based upon his coaching performance in a minor bowl game against a disinterested opponent.

He has nothing to base this on as Mac has only had two head stints and was not successful at either one. I like Mac and wish him well at Texas, but certainly, Gailey is the more qualified of the two to be our head coach. Further, Mac has not been snapped up to be a head coach anywhere else.

I think that beeware's opinion is reflective of his disdain for Dave Braine. If it is something different and if I stated his stance for Coach Mac incorrectly, maybe he will correct me.
