You people are way off base, and your comments regarding the Falcons and Blank make you sound more like outsiders than fans from Atlanta who truly understand the situation...
- Most Falcons fans (myself included) wanted Reeves gone. Dan controlled the entire team (remember it was him, not Blank, who drafted the "thug" Vick), and after his triple bypass he just didn't seem into football, and the team had zero energy/motivation. Wisely, Blank wanted to divide the power between a GM and HC, and at the time McCay was seen as a major coup. Arthur told Reeves -- privately -- that he was going to make a change at the end of the season so Blank could honor Dan in our final home game of the season (how often do you see THAT display of appreciation in professional sports). It was Reeves who wanted to leave with 3 games left and asked Blank to go public with the situation...
- I love this "thug nation" comments from you idiots. The only VA tech players on our roster of note brought in by McCay/Blank are the irrelevant Jimmy Williams (who was terrific value in the 2nd round), and D-Hall, who has a bad attitude but certainly isn't a criminal, and became an elite corner almost immediately. Our discipline problems stem from hiring the spineless Jim Mora, who had zero control over the locker room and just rode our talent to one decent season. Vick was always the leader of the team. This is why Blank is trying to hire a well-respected disciplinarian.
- In the hands of an actual tutor, and with the hard work/preparation most elite QBs put in (see Manning/Brady), Vick could have been a once-in-a-lifetime player at that position and in the NFL. Petrino seemed like that guy to Blank, and many of us, but when Vick was out of the equation Petrino (who came here specifically to design an offense around Vick) was as good as gone, too.
- I think Parcells would have signed here until Huizenga decided not to sell the team yesterday morning. He may have used us for leverage at that point, but the personnel in MIA will make it easier for Parcells to create his 3-4 defense and win earlier than it would here.
