Run n' Gun may have to save us since they figured out the TO

Who really cares how much we do or don't pass? I know every one of you would take a win like we did against UGA where we completed ONE pass.

Just win the damn game. if it takes more passing (ala Duke last year), then fine. If we run, more better. Just win baby.

We completed our first pass on our first possession of the game.

Give Nesbitt a little more time to pass (and a little more practice on the rollout) and we'll be fine. I can think of quite a few wide open A-backs this year. If we start hitting those, then this offense is going to explode.

All we need is 100 yards a game passing to match our 300 yards per game rushing (all on average) and we will have the offense to win the championship as long as the ball bounces our way a few times and D holds strong.

Way to go smart ass.

Neither our running nor passing game got us through key downs when it counted most. Working "fairly well" isn't nearly good enough.

Well, you have made some ignorant comments in this thread. But perhaps he was a bit harsh.

You sound a bit like those fans of other schools on other boards evaluating the LSU game. Your impressions from the score may be misleading.

The stats show that we rushed the ball pretty well against LSU. Take away the special teams SNAFUs and turnovers and its a tighter game.

The point is you were WAY off base to suggest that passing more would have helped anything. You will be fairly alone in that opinion.

IMO PJ doesn't want to pass the ball more, he just wants the pass plays called to be completed. That's the more important stat, and the one we're working on. Once we get more consitent, we'll probably increase the number of passes. BTW, does anyone know where I can get stats on the offenses of Hawaii and GSU in the 80's under PJ. I would love to see their actual pass vs run numbers. Thanks in advance if you have a link.

Not me, I want an air show at all costs. :fingersx:

Actually, I prefer the purity of a win with no pass attempts at all. That game against ND in the wishbone still sticks in my mind.

We need to be able to pass well enough to punish a team for ignoring it in coverage. And if the running game is working every team will eventually start trying to cheat up to stop it. When they do that we need to be able to make them pay.

Of course, I'd also love to see a pass happy opening against any team trying to beat our "gimmick" offense with a gimmick defense.

This is where WreckTheRest was in error at the beginning, and he's now realized his error, and is better informed in the future:

Didn't realize we passed so much relative to other games. Thanks for bringing that up.

No need to pile on him any further. Let's all be friends.

Yeah, if we gripe at all about the playcalling vs LSU it was that we passed too much.

For most of PJ's time with GSU in the 80's he was the D Coord not the offense

He was defensive line coach at Southern in 83-84 and offensive coordinator 85-86

back-to-back national champs 85-86 ;) in a 16-team playoff format.
I dug up this youtube recap of the GSU 1985 season. As you can see Tracy Ham passed occasionally. He was a dead accurate passer. I suppose if CPJ has the talent he'll use it.

To be fair, although he had a OC, when CPJ came back to GSU as HC he did call the plays.

I am not at all worried about our offense being figured out. Every play, in every formation, works if your guys block, run, catch, and/or throw better than their guys defend. The key for us, and any offense, is talent, preparation, and execution. One of our worst days last year was at UNC, they have a very talented D-line and we were not as talented on the O-line and did not execute well. Hence, they blew up a lot of our plays with penetration.

What I like about an option offense is that you have options on a play - you can read the defense and with good execution be successful. It's what I liked about Ross and Friedgen's passing game, sophisticated enough to have a lot of options if a QB was skilled at his reads.

run n shoot?

I don't think we will pass much. If things are going well we won't be throwing more than 10-12 times a game. Hopefully we can be more efficient when we do though.

Just wait until Jordan Luallen gets ready to play. This offense could get real intersting then.
