Sagarin Predictor: GT +2 against Miami

This is a funny season for us. We have 4 losses to teams currently ranked in the Top 25. None of those teams are in our own division, where we’re 3-1 and our only loss coming b/c our starting QB went down.

If you give us basically any other Coastal team’s non-division schedule we probably get 4 or 5 wins from it. Miami is the closest and they still have 3 non-P5 opponents where we had Ole Miss and UCF.

Duke: WF, BC, NW, Kansas, Temple, NCA&T
UM: Clem, FSU, A&M, MTSU, USM, B-C
UNC: NCSU, WF, ND, GSU, App St, FA
Pitt: Cuse, UL, Tenn, WVU, WMU,
UVA: Cuse, UL, CCU, Illinois, Richmond, ODU
VPI: NCSU, BC, WVU, Liberty, ODU, Wofford

Give us a halfway normal schedule and a healthy Sims and we’re probably 7-2 right now. Which isn’t to say we deserve to be 7-2. But it is to say that I don’t think we should be at all afraid of Miami or an 8-1 UNC who has played maybe the softest schedule in the country to this point.
Do you think it’s a mistake UNC has played the softest schedule in the country, and our schedule is more difficult than UGA’s?

Ans. No.

The ACC screws GT and heavily favors The Carolina Twerps. Always has. Always will.

I mean I’m not sure it’s the ACCs fault that we schedule the toughest non-conference slate in the country seemingly every year and I’d assume we requested Clemson as our permanent rival. That’s not really on the ACC. UNC has two ranked teams from the Atlantic left to play.

But they’re 100% a paper tiger right now. Ridiculously easy schedule to this point and theyve needed a few miracles to beat App State and Duke. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they lost the last 3.

I can promise you we did not request Clemson as our permanent rival. That was Swofford and the ACC minions.

Do you have any inside info on that? Just from a fanbase perspective, I would guess the vast majority would have chosen Clemson as our permanent rival. I know I certainly would have.

They're my favorite conference foe to play -- or at least they were back when it was a competitive series. Hopefully we can make it that way again soon.

He doesn’t have information but he does have speculation. Will that work?

What? But he promised
Anybody can promise anything on topics with low to 0 probability of finding out the truth. What’s gonna happen? No way to verify what he says and more than likely we’ll never know.

We definitely know. GT is the one who requested Clemson as a permanent rival. I can promise you that.

Bullshit. I guarantee we requested Clemson. It is consistently our best attended ACC game. Who wouldn’t make that their permanent rival?

Where we screwed up was not being in the Atlantic in place of Maryland. And we didn’t correct that even when they left and UL came in. Completely stupid.

I disagree. I don’t remember it that way. I remember PJ complaining about Clemson as a permanent opponent.

UGA isn’t stupid. They want to win. They didn’t schedule Bama or LSU as a permanent cross over opponent. They would lose.

Full Bobby Dodd vs Clemson has always been at least 49% Clemson since 1990 in my recollections.
The Carolina Boys wanted no part of Clemson as a permanent opponent. Do they controlled the ACC and stuck it to their biggest for 1st/2nd place rival GT.

The coach may not want Clemson as a permanent cross over, but the AD does. With the exception of FSU, no other ACC school would allow GT to sell those 3 game packs with two dud teams. Clemson fans will absolutely buy 3 tickets to watch the Tigers once. There is no way GT writes off that kind of money. And Clemson isn’t going to remain a lock loss forever. They will fall back to a 0.500 series soon enough.

As for uga, Auburn is a more traditional rival for them than bama. Besides, the difference in ticket sales between bama, lsu, and auburn is going to be zero for uga. Maybe you could make the case that Ark, Mstate, or ATM would see a drop in ticket sales, but it would be slight. Ticket sales at BD are vastly different between Clemson/FSU and any other ACC team, especially when view from a percentage of ticket sales.

But Clemson was set as our permanent rival before Paul Johsnon came to GT, right? So I don't see how he could have had any input as to whether we requested them as our permanent rival.
