Same Pass Play Back to Back?

IIRC we had wide, and I mean wide, open TDs at least twice against Clemson this season that never materialized because JT didn't have enough time to get it off to them. Same as last year when I think we hit 2 long AB TDs against them. The pass blocking improvement this second half of the season has been noticeable.
I agree the pass protection looks way better. I'm curious to hear from those more knowledgable on the X's and O's than myself what we changed to improve the pass blocking?

I think it is pretty simple. We are pass blocking rather than cut blocking in these situations more.

The one thing about our OL is that they aren't huge but they are maybe quicker and more athletic than the guys that are across the line from them. Additionally, teams aren't always blitzing against us because of the run threat, so it is really a four on four situation at the LOS unless it is an obvious passing situation, like 3rd and long.

For all the complaints about CPJ not tweaking the offense to address defensive changes since ND last year, it seems like since mid-season he's opened up the passing game to disrupt whatever blueprint may have been out there to slow the 3O. Pass blocking has improved immensely and with enough talent at QB, AB and WR to make the D pay it's been working. It's re-opened the 3O as the D can't cheat as much.

+1 with the pass blocking improvement. Have to give some credit here to Sewak. Our staff has clearly fixed pass pro issues that showed up vs Miami, et al

Yep. Clemson has totally sold out to stop our run for years now, and we can't block their DL well enough to make them pay with the passing game.

Have we ever really cut in pass pro though? My impression was just that we're better at blocking, not that we made some schematic adjustment.

And better at blocking means:
- better foot movement to stay in front of defender
- better hand-play to get leverage and stay in front of defender
- strength and burst

I think we still cut on the weak side when we roll out so that the D doesnt immediately know its a pass, plus it may have a run option involved on that side

I think it makes sense to block the same technique st times in order to take advantage of the surprise factor that its a pass and allow the triple option et al scare them into biting on fakes

Also take a look at Clinton Lynch on both plays. One defender with a blocker in front, then green grass. Easy 17 yards a pop if Brad or Qua are covered.
