Padding the schedule with patsies other than Georgia is a great idea, because we only get to play in the championship if we go undefeated, and we go undefeated we're nigh guaranteed a spot in the championship.

Ever since they wrecked the BCS formula after Auburn was RIGHTLY held out of the NC game, the obvious way to get to the championship is to play as many patsies as possible.

Except there is one problem. Anyone think we could win a National Title game next season? Probably not. Until we think we can win that game we need to improve our reputation so that we won't have to go undefeated when the time is right. As much as I would love to go to the NT game next year, I'd also rather not be put on the same level as Ohio St.

I think if the ACC was seen as a strong conference it would be a good idea...but the current ACC schedule is too weak to send the ACC champ to the national title. Because of that, we have to bring in a decent OoC schedule to have a shot...

Untrue. The ACC is percieved to be weak because it's too strong. To be considered a 'strong' conference you have to have Top Ten teams, and in order to have Top Ten teams, you have to have teams with zero or one loss. That's just how it is, because polling is stupid.

The ACC got plenty of National Championship berths when FSU was raping the rest of the conference. Because that's how it works.

1 loss and we're out of the national championship, or at least behind the SEC, Big 12 and USC teams if they've got 1 loss.

...and that's true no matter what our OOC schedule is. That's decided by who got the biggest TV deal.

Keep in mind we'll start the season off ranked around 10-15 with one of our games being a pre-season top 10 VPI. Yeah, I can guarantee that if we were to go undefeated with an ACC championship win, we'd be in the title game - that extra game helps out a lot.

Really, there's 3 tiers right now.

There's Media Darling conferences, where 1 loss gets you into the NC. (SEC, Big 12)

There's BCS conferences, where 0 losses get you into the NC. (ACC, Bigteleven, Big East, Pac 10)

There's scrubs, who are prohibited from playing in the NC.


That's it. That's your system. It's really a pretty simple system. So for god's sake, schedule some patsies until they change the system.
