Scout recently released their first set of rankings. Ryan Ayers is the #4 CB in the country and we're doing very well with him. Looks like we could land some real blue chippers this year.

Ayers on the "cover"...

Dyer... I like that name. has a nice ring to it.

BTW, rivals ranks him as the number 9 player in the country. That's even a better ranking than CJ had coming out of HS.

If you want to, you have permission to take these rankings, crunch them up into a little ball, and stick 'em where the sun don't shine. There is so much talent out there that any team can get a solid squad. If USF has a team that can make the top 10 (granted the big east isn't a real conference), then anyone can get the talent. After that, its all about coaches, schedule and how your team play on Saturdays. It doesn't take a great team to be great anymore. There is talent for all. The real question is can CPJ hang with the big boys. I have a hunch he can...

Jones, Nesbitt, Dwyer, Morgan, Thomas, and Burnette were all in same top 15 recruiting class. It does matter. You bring in talent like that every year, watch out.

thomas was in different class, but I get, and agree with, your point. But, they are all also playing under Johnson. So, who knows?

Look at all the national titles UGA has won with their top 10 recruiting classes, just look at how many SEC titles they've won, just look at how they pounded a little school like us that can't recruit. You star nazi's get your panties in a wad. I will be happy with whoever is on the field as long as they win.

Dude, UGA was last year's Preseason Number 1. What did we accomplish, huh?

Come on... the recruiting rankings do matter. If they didn't, then Duke, Vandy, Northwestern and Baylor would be winning as many national titles as Texas, USC, UF and Ohio State.

They don't mean everything, but they have an incredibly high correlation to a high ranking. We're quant people here at tech that understand correlation vs causality. I hate UGA as much as the rest of you, but due to their recruiting classes, it is extremely rare for them to finish out of the top 20. We're on the other side, with lesser recruiting classes making it hard for us to break the top 20.

I think it would be interesting to do a different hindsight. How many teams that made the top 5 did not have good recruiting rankings? I think a possibility is that recruiting rankings don't mean success but success often happens with recruiting rankings.

EDSBS did a correlation before. We have posted it here as well.

Not sure if you all read this article by EDSBS, but showed Rivals score versus overall wins -- plus looked at 2 teams playing and their Rivals score and the outcome of the game.

Interesting read, but I think a lot of EDSBS's reads are interesting.

Edit: Not sure why my image is not showing have around it. It is a workable link though.
