SC's Garcia taken out by ref

he is looking at him...but look...the ref is two-3 yards outside the hash..garcia is on the hash...the ref is side hopping into garcias apparent path...both cut....collide...

if anything your picture confirms my thoughts....good try though

I wanted to disagree with you because the whole thing is funny, but watching the very end of the play, Garcia did cut at the very end of the play - right into the ref's path.

you guys are completely missing the fact that this particular Umps job is to stay in front of the line and look for holding. Not only is he WAY out of position but he intentionally slid over to his right; away from the action he should be watching and if you watched LUNGED into garcia before he ever made his cut. There is no doubt dude had a acid flashback from the 60s or IMO there is some shady crap going on....

+1

And how is he looking for holding watching the RB the whole time. The website I link to shows more pictures than the one I posted.

Wanna, that was a weak cut if you are calling that a cut. Watch that again. He barely moves toward the ref...the ref does the majority of the work.

Apparently there won't be any investigation or punishment - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3654428

I wonder if the outcome would be different if they hadn't scored on that drive...it looks pretty clear he's way out of line though. The official in question is an umpire:

The umpire (U) stands behind the defensive line and linebackers, observing the blocks by the offensive line and defenders trying to ward off those blocks — looking for holding or illegal blocks. Prior to the snap, he counts all offensive players.
During passing plays, he moves forward towards the line of scrimmage as the play develops in order to (1) penalize any offensive linemen who move illegally downfield before the pass is thrown or (2) penalize the quarterback for throwing the ball when beyond the original line of scrimmage. He also assists on ruling incomplete passes when the ball is thrown short.

Obviously it wasn't a passing play, he was way out of position and tackled a player. I hope he's not at the Georgia/GT game...

For those of you that think that there's no possible way that a referee could/would insert himself into a game to determine the outcome, I will remind you of the NBA ref. that did just that.

This is a bad comparison. The NBA ref didn't do anything like that, he called fouls that should not have been called. He never actually interfered with the game.

There's no way this was related to betting. First of all, they scored three plays later anyway. Second of all, there are far more effective and less obvious ways to fix a football game as a referee. It's a common saying...there are penalties on every play of football. Much easier to just call holding on a scoring play or something. 10 yard penalties add up pretty quick and it's tough to get in trouble for making those calls.

I watched the clip ten times, five of those with SWMBO. Both of us concluded: 33jacket, you are so right!

and you're also forgetting what happened to the SEC crew that called our game vs. UGA in 1999 (Jasper Sanks fumble)

That was crazy. Plus by focusing on tackling Garcia he missed the dreaded helmet-to-helmet hit.

Garcia should file simple battery charges.
