scumbag reporter chases fired Gillispie...

Don't those pompous idiots realize that Rupp is dead and Pitino is not coming back--any coach who goes there is ego building, chasing the $, or a fool.

And why does a reporter chasing Gilliespie make UK a scumbag place? If an ajc reporter says or does something stupid in regard to GT, does that make GT a scumbag place?

With logic like that, how did you score high enough on the LSAT to get into law school?
 
The reporter may be a scumbag, but Gillispie handled that really poorly. All he had to do was say "no comment" or even just say nothing. Yeah, I'm sure all he wanted to do was punch that guy in the face, but how in the world was running away going to help? Just keep walking, it would have taken ten more seconds, then when he got to the office they would have been kicked out anyway. Talk about not keeping your dignity. He acted like he was an athlete on trial for murder or something, all that was missing was Drew Rosenhaus running with him yelling "no comment" and looking nice and serious for the camera.

You could make the obvious argument that no reporter would do that to a coach at GT, because GT coaches woulnd't tolerate it, and because GT coaches (even in their losing years, e.g., Gailey) have the respect of the reporters. You could probably make a host of other arguments too.

I'm not saying that is necessarily true, but your statement "with logic like that, how do you score high enough on the LSAT to get into law school" is pretty stupid.

What I thought was interesting is that Gillispie looked like he was using a security code to get into at least 2 doors, and the reporter and cameraman thought it was okay to follow him. Too bad KY security didn't kick his ass out of the building at the first door.

Is that adjective really necessary?

It is kind of like saying "four-legged horse".

I guess somewhere there is a horse or two that isn't four-legged but you are usually safe just implying the adjective.

Yeah I noticed that too. When he first went in, there was a moment of hesitation and then the reporter decided to go for it. Probably Gillispie was going in through a back entrance to avoid attention, but ironically would have been better off going through the main entrance where security could have stopped the reporter.

I used to live in Kentucky. Those folks could tell you the starting 5 basketball players for the last 50 years but could not tell you the present football coach's name.

They also paid no attention to traffic lights and routinely drove on the wrong side of the road. Needless to say, I didn't stay in Kentucky long. I did stay long enough to start cheering for Louisville though, and still do so long as they aren't playing GT.

Screw Kentucky basketball, but don't ever question the resolve of its fans. Kentucky basketball is the biggest thing in Kentucky. Go Louisville!!!

Dillusional --nowadays it IS just another coaching job.

I'll give that UK is 4th on the all-time final fours list and 2nd in NCAA championships --stellar accomplishments. However, it's now been 11 years since Kentucky last appeared in a final four, the programs longest ever dry-spell.

During UK's dryspell:
UNC- 5 final fours, 1 title
Mich St- 5 and 1
Florida- 3 and 2
UConn- 3 and 2
Kansas- 3 and 1
Duke- 3 and 1
UCLA- 3 and 0

add Maryland has been twice and won once and Ohio State twice with no title.

Kentucky does lead all of the beforementioned in $50 bills falling out of an Emery Air Freight package.

Kentucky does not accept 2nd place in basketball. I agree they've dwindled, but they will pay whatever they've gotta pay to get back to championship status... unlike the Jackets unfortunately.

Recent results are truly irrelevant. Resolve and funding are relevant.

They have certain expectations; they have recruiting cachet that still holds despite setbacks (just as Notre Dame and Penn State and Bama have in football despite downturns); and they are willing to spend to make it worth the trouble to a coach.

Plus, if a coach does have success at Kentucky then it seems to have more notoriety than the same success at another program. Again, it is no different than Bama in football.

The downside to the Kentucky job is the short leash and the inflated expectations. But if you are an ambitious coach then you are going to believe you are up to the task.
