Sean Renfree

I happen to have talked with Sean and his Mom a few weeks ago. His decison had nothing to do with a new coach coming in or Chan's possible leaving. At that time he was 90% gone for a few other reasons.

I am bummed about this news. Renfree was very vocal about bringing other guys here with him. This year's "ambassador" so to speak...

While Renfree may fit the bill as a pure drop back passer...most of these types of guys don't have the 4.5 speed that Sean apparently has.

I still think he'd be a good fit with Paul Johnson. BUT, if he's opposed to ANY running plays then we should just let him go wherever without much discussion.

Not doubting they told you that...but the direct quote from the Rivals interview yesterday with Sean Renfree...."The new Georgia Tech coach from what it sounds like is going to bring in his option-based offense and obviously I'm not a very good fit for that."

Otherwise...he was going to enroll early so he could participate in spring practice.

I am not complaining...just passing along information. I sure other changes will take place.

Why? There's nothing binding to his commitment at this point. Was it poor form for DRad to not have called him BEFORE he fired Chan?
Why not? If you told someone you were going to do something and changed your mind, wouldn't you think it was wise to at least talk to the other party before making an announcment? No big deal, just isn't the way I taught my son to deal with things.

Ed, Like I said he was 90% gone before Chan was fired. PJ's offense just offered a politically correct way to explain his change his mind.

Agreed. But the ironic part of this is he would have developed more under Paul than he would have under Chan, who could not develop a viable D1A QB in 6 years.

Yeah, I can't imagine why any "blue chip QB" would have picked Tech, unless they liked the school.

That's not what his dad said in the AJC article today. Just saying.

I am telling you that is not what I heard inside the AA the week of the UGA game. As of that time, Renfree was going to enroll early and compete in spring practice.

Ed, wake up . what you hear or see isn't always reality. I sat with Sean and his Mom and spent some time with them...there were a few other very cogent reasons for his change of mind. Reasons that are consistant with why many recruits have by-passed GT over the years. (non-schloastically related) Reasons that If D-Rad and the ass-backward "board" don't address, then expect the same programs for eternity.

Non-scholastically? Like what?

Just curious.

Then, he owed Gailey the call to say he wasn't coming, since that was the guy he made his commitment to. Oh wait, Gailey's not here. He owes CPJ or Georgia Tech nothing.

Look, there's nothing "owed" anyone. I just happen to think tha's not the way to do things is all. He can do whatever he damn well pleases up until he signs an LOI. Happy?

I just can't understand why anyone would not understand this kids decision? Put yourself, or better yet your son, in his shoes. He simply isn't an option QB. He could have gone behind GT's back and visited other schools and switched at the last minute. Rather now GT has time to go out and recruit a QB to fit their new system. Sean remained loyal to GT and kept his commitment until they hired a coach that didn't fit his style of play. I wish the kid the best of luck. 3400 yds, 41 TDs-I am sure he willl land on his feet.

On the bright side, if Chan was able to convince him he'd undergo some development at Tech under him, then he's clearly gullible, and maybe CPJ can persuade him.

beej67,
not bashing him, I swear

Haha, that's a good point.

I don't think it's really bashing though, until someone starts saying stuff like, "F*** you and the horse you rode out on..." That may be "over the line"

If CPJ talks to him and he re-commits, fantastic. If not, F*** you and the... oh wait no, best of luck unless you play us.

why is this thread 4 pages? Until a player walks on the field with a GT decal on his helmet, who cares?

I understand your point, but I think the 'commitment' isn't really worth crap until, as you said, he signs the LOI. It's more for his benefit to keep other schools from pestering him for the next 10 months. Had the coaching system remained the same and he decided to back out, I'd agree with you. But we're the ones that changed his world, not the other way around.
