Season Over But Troubling Question Remains

There won't be explanation simply because there isn't one that would make any football sense.
There's a very easy explanation that would make perfect football sense - Reggie was awesome in practice and TB sucked in practice.

There won't be a public explanation, though, because any explanation Chan gave would be A) picked apart to death by the fellowship of the miserable, and B) would require Chan to belittle a GT Student Athlete, which most of us agree he shouldn't do.

This would only make sense if neither had ever played a college game yet.
Don't you think that 3 years was enough time for Chan to realize "great" practices meant little?

From what I've heard, Taylor took a huge step up in the practices the week before the Duke game. His good performance actually did correlate to him doing much better in practice.

If Taylor was our starting QB against ND, we probably don't keep that game as close as we did. At least at that point in his development.

Chan Wouldn't Be GT's Coach Now, If . . .

Had Chan been able to pull off wins against the Dawgs and Wake F., I don't believe he would be coaching at Tech next year. He would be the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins!

But Reggie did have games where he made the plays to win.

Besides, it's over so why do we have to keep rehashing it?

pocket, just what would your qualifications be to understand whether an answer made football sense?

You missed the point.

Something along the line of we had no other quarterbacks even listed on the roster.

Not saying that one of the other 4 would have been hands down better, but to have not tried a change somewhere along the way will never make any football sense...to me.

Amen, Pocket_Watch! I don't understand why no action was taken either.

My point pocket, is that neither you nor I nor LUVarsity really knows what makes football sense. I agree, for the record, that I would have liked to see another QB get a shot. But I also understand that I know much less about the sport than I think I do, mostly after having my brother, who is a coach, explain things to me that I simply had no idea about. As fans we only know what we see. People who know the game look at the same things we do and see something entirely different.

I mean, why didn't the Bears try a different QB for example.

Good point. Don't you know that has been asked a few times today in Chicawgo?

To this issue, while enjoying the rerun in entirety of SB III, I enjoyed where the Coach of the Baltimore Colts replaced an ineffevtive Earl Morral with a rag armed John Unitas in the second half.
As we know, the Colts still lost but at least that young coach named Shula knew what was not working.

The Bears did try a different QB.

Griese played a whole half against Green Bay and against Detroit late in the season. Earlier in the season when Rex was struggling, Griese was also given half the reps with the first team during practice and it was publically announced that Grossman was on a short leash. In fact, right after that, Rex came out and had one of his best games of the season, if you'll remember. So the situations are really apples and oranges, in that the Bears did what most fans wanted us to do, and also that they got to the Super Bowl whereas we lost to UGA and Wake.

(Also, off topic, I really don't think that Grossman lost that game for them. He did blow it late, but the defense just didn't really show up and neither did the running backs. Plenty of blame for everybody.)
