Crazy, ominous atmosphere at the game, today. The lighting, the clouds, the injuries, the lack of production, etc. were surreal.

We walked in at the beginning of the second quarter.

I heard that in the first quarter that Sedric Griffin was having seizures.

Shane Bowen went down, as well.

At about the time Bowen went down, I noticed a commotion on the south side of our sidelines. It seemed unrelated to Bowen. It looked like several coaches were trying to hold someone down. Several players were gathered around. It was pretty crazy looking.

Does anyone have any idea what this was? It seemed as though it lasted until the end of the game. Did it have something to do with Griffin?

I listened to the post-game show and heard nothing. I have to assume that it wasn't serious since I have seen nothing about it. At this point, I am very curious.

Also, a host of GW players went down throughout the game. I saw one guy getting carted off in the second half.

Strange game, today.

Yea sed was having a seizure. The redshirted players tried to gather around him so the fans wouldnt see what was going on. Please pray for him.

we sit on row 14 in the section in front of where it happened. It did not look good. Let's pray for him and his health. And the paramedics took fifteen minutes to get there..... it took at least four guys to hold him down. The sideline was VERy distracted while this was occurring.

Wow. I hate it when my fears are confirmed. I can't believe I heard nothing on the radio, message boards, or AJC. Contrary to my first thought, it sounds quite serious.

I had a friend in high school that had epilepsy, we were taught to NOT hold them down but just give them plenty of room so they don't hurt themselves with anything around them.

Anyway, that's too bad. Hope he is okay.

When I was in school at Tech a kid had a siezure during a lab. We all just sat there and held his arms and legs until he stopped. Freaky.

Wasn't at the game today--on call. Yeah, not really supposed to hold them down--they can break bones that way. Surprised it took so long for paramedics.

Will get CT scan/MRI on Griffin. If - (hopefully), will get EEG, or just treat as really bad concussion.

I'm not surprised to hear that. Actually admirable restraint from the media types for not having anything about it so far. They can wait for some real, hard news on the situation.

But I saw it from nearly the beginning, almost the moment he went down, and it really was frightening. I can't imagine having to go out there and play while something like that is going on.

Yeah, I saw this from the south endzone student section. I didn't think it was that early in the game though. I thought it was more like in the 3rd quarter. Anyways, very concerning situation. Very distracting to the team also. Calvin Booker was actually one of the main players getting coaches attention that they needed help. It did last a long time though, it was hard to see from where I was, but I remember thinking "man, he's still have seizing and it being atleast 10-15 minutes after it started."

Was he hit before seizure, or did he have it de novo? I have seen a number of post-concussive seizures (not terribly uncommon), and they usually have no long-term sequelae. Just have to make sure there is nothing going on inside the head other than the concussion.

It seems like he was just on the bench at the moment because he was pretty far off the sideline. Not directly after a hit, but I do remember him being down on the field earlier in the game after a big hit. Turns out Army was concerned about the physical toll that game would have on them, looks like the replacement for us did more damage than expected.

Those that weren't at the game need to know that this was a big deal. A quarter of our sideline space was taken up by people trying to help/shield the situation. It lasted for over a quarter's worth of football, as well. There is no question that it was a distraction to the team, and rightfully so.

Keep Sedric in your thoughts / prayers / etc.

MT article foreshadows this issue

There was an article online at the Macon Telegraph site today (Saturday) pre-game that discusses a fairly rare disease/sinus issue that Sedric had as a child which is a possible cause of these seizures. In fact, at the end of the article it says, ""Once they have an Empyema like that, there is a really high risk for seizure,".

It seems that he has had seizures more than once, and they thought about a medical redshirt at one point.

Here's the article: MT Article

INJURY SCARE
The Yellow Jackets had a pair of injury scares from outside linebacker Sedric Griffin. The junior, who has started all six games this season, was walked off the field early in the first half with an undisclosed injury. The team announced that his return to the game would be doubtful.

Then, at the start of the fourth quarter, dressed on Georgia Tech's sideline in the white jersey top and blue warm-up pants worn by inactive Yellow Jackets, Griffin was seen shaking mildly as team trainers rushed to his side.

Trainers and other inactive players created a shield with their bodies, keeping fans from seeing what all was going on. After the game, Johnson addressed Griffin's situation, saying he was OK, and that, "He just has a medical problem, and I'll have to leave it at that."

Quoted from the Macon Telegraph

Let's all hope he's OK

Sed was having tremors on the field after a play - the one when Bowen got hurt (the fake punt by GW?). It looked to me like a minor seizure as he was standing up. I'm sure he had been head-knocking. They walked him off the field and I turned my attention to Bowen. Later, Sed was on the ground behind the defensive bench with several attending him, as has been described.

I hate this for the young man. Hopefully, he will be OK.

Holy cow, I missed all of this, but it was hard to see the bench from my seat.

I bet that really distracted the team.

I was sitting next to Shanes parents. They didn't seem TOOO bothered.

I know what seizures are like from both sides of the field, I used to have them when I was a kid. Also, a friend of mine on the ship had one, and it was pretty scary, it took 6 guys to put him in a stretcher after it was over. Trying to hold down a 240 lb guy to put in a stretcher is no easy task.

My prayers are with him.

It happened right in front of me. We were screaming for trainers and doctors who were all on the other end of field attending to Bowen on the field. I was pissed it took so long to get EMTs over there as the coaches were the main ones dealing with it for the first few minutes.

Note to self: Don't have a heart attack at BDS.
