He's been cleared medically and CPJ was already ready to throw him in the UNC game if needed. Thoughts on whether or not he could get the job done if Nesbitt goes out? Unless I'm mistaken, he played for almost the entire game against MSU last year (Nesbitt got injured early, right?), and he did amazingly well, but lets not forget the nightmare game he had at UNC...

heres the article (sorry, its by Heather Dinich... :dunno:)

I'm just hoping Josh doesn't get hurt. He seems much more durable this year. By this point last year, Josh had already started to seem nicked up. He looks to be in perfect form still. Actually, he seems to be looking better each week.

I'm hopeful that Jaybo's presence will allow us to run Nesbitt more (like we saw against UNC), especially in using the midline option to keep defenses playing the middle if we're losing the battle in the trenches.

I think the better question is not if he could get the job done if Nesbitt goes out, but rather will CPJ throw him in for a couple of series to give Nesbitt rest? Do you think we have to be winning by a lot for him to get PT, or even if we're up a TD or two?

I think that getting him in for a couple of series in every game would be a big thing. He seemed (at least to me) last year to be pretty accurate throwing the ball, and while not the best at running the option (he holds it way too much), he gets the job done. Might be nice to get a change of pace and give Nesbitt some rest, he's been looking out of breath almost every game by the time the fourth quarter comes around.

True about Nesbitt being tougher. Watch highlights from BC/VT last year where he was geting flushed out of the pocket then running the whole 10 yards for first downs... then watch the Miami run he had where he was limping down the field on the break-away run he had...

I think he's doing a great job, but wouldn't mind seeing how Jaybo does just to be more comfortable... remember last year Nesbitt got injured and then we HAD to play Jaybo. I'd like to have him get a lot of experience so that the kinks are worked out if, God forbid, Nesbitt gets injured

If Josh gets really tired (like he did on those long drives vs UNC), Jaybo could come in and spell him for a few plays. CPJ trusts Jaybo and may use him like a backup running back vs MSU. It's easy to see why... Jaybo ran up 38 points on them last year.

I think Jaybo will do fine if he is called upon. He ran the offense pretty well last year when we needed him. He should be better this year with more practice time / exposure to this offense.

We shouldn't beat up Jaybo over the UNC game last year. Nesbitt has also had some inconsistent play and "bad games" (see 2009 Miami stats).

Best case scenario is that Jaybo gets some playing time over the next few games because we have a comfortable lead...versus necessity over an injury.

Not blaming anyone...not Nesbitt for this year's Miami game...or Jaybo for last year's UNC game. Just stating a fact. Our blocking wasn't exactly stellar against UNC last year as I recall.

I'm excited as hell to hear that. If he's kept his ability to keep a cool head, come off the bench for a few plays and run the offense solidly (see mutts game), thats awesome.

Whether Josh gets gassed after a long run, wind knocked out of him, or anything else, Shaw lets us know that the series isn't over immediately.

Exactly. After that BS piledrive tackle that UNC did against us, we had to burn a timeout because Nesbitt wasn't ready to run another play, it's nice having that kind of trust in a backup to be able to run them out there for one play or two if something happens like wind being knocked out.

IIRC, supposedly Jaybo was having a pretty good summer camp before getting injured. To me, Jaybo looked more crisp and efficient running the option last year. How that translates to this year I don't know, but I'd say once the rust gets knocked off, he'll be even better. Jaybo's problem is his size, and the fact that when he gets hit he goes straight down. Josh is clearly the man and really appeared to be getting in the groove against UNC. I think he only gets better as the year goes on and he gains more confidence.

It's great though to have Jaybo back. In the Harvey article in today's Macon telegraph, you could almost hear the relief in Josh and Johnson's statements that Jaybo's back. Josh knows he's the man, but he also knows that Jaybo can be there to rest him on a series or two. To state the obvious, this just makes us that much stronger.

I admire Jaybo. I broke my collarbone last August and over a year later, I'm still having problems with it.
