Should the ACC Champ Game be renamed the Lonely Bowl?

It needs to move, that's the real issue. No reason for this game to be in FL.

A move is not going to fix it. It needs to be cancelled - the ACC is not ready for a championship game when only 2-3 of the member teams can consistently sell it out.

5000 Tech fans will go to the ACCCG in Charlotte on short notice. Mark it down. The game will not sell out unless its Clemson or maybe NCS. The same will hold true with FSU and Miami. So every few decades when you get Clemson-VPI, or Clemson-UNC, the game will sell out. Wow, lots of fun.

BS. Charlotte is a shorter drive than Jax for GT. We sold just fine in Jax dispite having an unpopular coach and having just lost to UGA.

Here's my guess as to the range of fans each school would consistently bring to the ACCCG in Charlotte.

VT - 30k-35k based on how many they brought to Wake
UNC - 40k - 50k based on the Charlotte bowl
GT - 20k - 25k based on our Jax trip
UVa - 15k - 20k pure speculation
Miami - 10k - 15k based on how they travel here on a good year
Duke - 10k a truly an imaginary number

Clem - 50k - 60k based on their home stadium during a bad run
BC - 10k based on their first trip to Jax
Wake - 10k - 15k based on their home crowds
NCST - 20k - 30k based on their home crowds
FSU - 15k - 25k based on how they traveled here during their good years
Md - 10k - 20k based on how they traveled to the Orange bowl

This game needs to be in Charlotte. There is as large an inherent interest in the ACC in Charlotte as there is anywhere, and it is a very short drive (under 5 hours, under 3 hours for half the conference) for 8 of the teams in the conference, excepting F$U, Miami, UMD and BC.

Here are the drive times from each home city to Charlotte:
BC - 14.5 hours
UMD - 7 hours
UVA - 4.75 hours
VT - 3 hours
UNC/Dook/NCSU - 2.5 hours
WFU - 1.5 hours
CU - 2.5 hours
GT - 4 hours
F$U - 8.5 hours
UM - 11.5 hours

This is a no-brainer. It's time for The Little Girl to stop bending over for the Florida schools.

It may not sell out, and that's OK - neither does the Big 12. It may be an outdoor stadium in December, and that's OK - so is the Big 12 (Kansas City!). There will not be less than 40K present for another ACCCG the day after the game is put in Charlotte.

Um, we brought more than that to Jacksonville. At least I'm pretty damn sure of it, having been there. And it wouldn't show up in official ticket numbers since most got tickets for cheaper from nonofficial sources.

I also know I would have gone to a game in Charlotte but not a game in Jacksonville. Remember we have some 30,000 odd season ticket holders, plus a number of fans who come in for a couple of big games a year. Much more than 5000 of those fans would suffer through the 4 hour drive to see Tech play for a BCS bowl.

It's required for conferences with more than 12 teams. It was a rule designed for D-IAA and lower conferences, where the conference championship has much more importance due to the winner going to the playoff.

Then keep showing replays of VT / BC. Who's going to notice?

Common sense says it should be moved to Charlotte--but it won't happen soon because the ACC power elite do not have COMMON SENSE.

Its got one more year in Tampa and then it moves to Charlotte for two years I think.

Once it gets to Charlotte, it won't leave. The SEC put its title game right in the middle of SEC country. Atlanta is less than 5 hours away from half the conference. And its an easy flight from New Orleans.

Charlotte's a USAir hub, and is also easy to get into from anywhere on the east coast.
