So...does everyone still agree with the "play for fun" bowl prep approach?...

This does not work. We are not good enough to play a single college football game without 110% laser focus at all times on nothing but knocking our opponent in the mouth.

Because of the loss of this type in front of the largest audience GT has played before (live and TV combined)...many of which only watch GT once every couple of years....fully expect the skepticism of our offense, our program, and the ACC to continue.

We had an opportunity to put a nail in the coffin on all doubtors...and to secure a Top 10 pre-season ranking for next year...maybe Top 12 this year...and blew it.

Also probably cost us in season ticket sales and recruiting - hope it was fun!

Absolutely agree... :readthis: By reading all accounts on the CFA's preparations, I just don't feel that we took this game as seriously as we should for EVERY game. They all count in the W-L record books. Tech fans were there in BIG numers and in GOLD yet. Just a very frustrating experience and let down for a wonderful and exciting year. Let's hope CPJ learns from this loss and "remembers" it.
And last but not least...
Happy New Year!

I was one that thought we were just going to prep for the bowl like any other game, but it didn't appear that way once we got on the field. Especially on D and special teams.

I think if CPJ truly wants to win National Titles here he needs to understand that unlike Navy, you're not "happy just to be here." Getting embarrassed on national TV when the mighty ESPN has been anointing you, with the subsequent fall out, should be a good reminder of that.

Our D played better than our O!

Special teams was horrific.

"They" used to BITCH about DODD's bowl prep too--but--he did pretty WELL with it!! It was not the PHYSICAL cond. that I saw but the MENTAL one--after getting smacked in the mouth early I saw no FIRE or GRIT-- I am no expert or mind reader just a frustrated observer.

This attitude is a mystery to me, but I trust CPJ's judgment. Who the hell am I to second guess him?

I think it's ok to consider the bowl a reward if you're 6-6 and going to the blue turf bowl. I think that if there's anything on the line (like last night) you treat it like what it is - a big friggin game - and prepare accordingly.

I can only hope that *WHEN* we're playing for the MNC in a couple of years, CPJ has the team way more prepared than they were last night.

I'll never be embarrased to be a GT fan, but last night was as close as it gets for me. A total and utter smackdown by a team we should have owned.

That's normally the case; however, I can't agree with that for last two games. The defense gave up 35 points in the first half. There are no excuses for that. Yes, the special teams lack of discipline gave LSU great field position but our defense didn't need to crumble and actually give them 6 on all those possessions.

Being in such a huge hole, the offense was forced to go outside of their comfort zone and start throwing. We all know how that usually ends up.

CPJ was the fourth best coach at the CFAB...
Miles, LSU special teams coach, Coach Womack all out performed him.

Look CPJ this isn't Navy, we are not just happy to be at the bowl game.

Now, do I think he will make this mistake twice? Nope.

No excuse? Def is the only reason Lsu did not hang 70 on us.

Always makes me laugh when people say stuff like this. Right up there with the people that say - after every single time we're beaten by a lesser team - "Their heads were too big; They thought they had already won the game."

I'm sure Paul Johnson assumed we were satisfied and was just ready to go through the CFA Bowl motions.

action vs. words

what exactly did you see last night? a team well prepared to play or a team going thru the motions?

Look, I still think CPJ is the right guy for the job but he f***ed this gane up.

I saw everything you did - we played like garbage and we were outcoached by a long, long shot. I don't disagree with you on any of that.

I think CPJ screwed up in the prep for this game, hardcore. But I don't think it was because he thought we were satisfied. He'll learn and he doesn't seem like the sort to repeat mistakes.

probably not the right choice of words by me, but we agree.

No, no. This can't work. We lost last night, we've got to fight about something. Uh.. take an hour break and I'll dig up some way to call you a UGAg fan in disguise.

;)

The only reason LSU didn't hang 70 on us is because they didn't care to. What you are saying is that our defense suddenly became decent again in the second half and stopped LSU. This is nothing more than biased hopeful thinking at best.

Our offense could have put up 70 against JSU, MSU, Duke, etc... but we didn't. Why? It wasn't because their defense all of a sudden became good at the end of the game, our team just didn't care to.
