So...does everyone still agree with the "play for fun" bowl prep approach?...

The only reason LSU didn't hang 70 on us is because they didn't care to. What you are saying is that our defense suddenly became decent again in the second half and stopped LSU. This is nothing more than biased hopeful thinking at best.

Our offense could have put up 70 against JSU, MSU, Duke, etc... but we didn't. Why? It wasn't because their defense all of a sudden became good at the end of the game, our team just didn't care to.
You really don't think LSU tried to hang 70 on us?

Not true at all. They were trying with all their might to score more points. Did you not notice the 5 shots they took at the endzone with long passes in the 4th quarter.

LSU wanted 50 points...and they could not get it because our D did show that it cared in the second half. I give them credit for that....had to be hard given the circumstance.

Good point, but I blame the D only slightly less than special teams for the fall out in the first half. It really all started with special teams play, but D also led LSU flip the field a couple of times against them and made it a lot harder for our offense.

I really felt like Morgan Burnette was the only D player that came with thunder on every single play of the game.

I missed the first 5 minutes and decided to quit watching prior to half time after it became 28-3. The next offensive possession closed the book for me when on 3rd down their Dlineman blew up our RT (pushing him 5-7 yds into the backfield).

I didn't listen to the TV commentators, but their 3rd string QB looked good out there. I don't know what GT looked like in the 2nd half, but I have a feeling that CPJ probably talked about playing for pride, etc.

The worst thing about this loss was the total appearance of the "just glad to be here syndrome." Also, the CFA committee has to have a bitter taste in its mouth now regarding what transpired in the game.

I hope GT folks learned something regarding the post season bowl preparation. Like Lou Holtz just stated, oyu never know which team is going to show up to play in the bowl game. LSU had a chip on their shoulder and GT was still savoring its last regular season game victory. The season's goal for this team was met on Thanksgiving weekend and anything after that was gravy. Unfortunately, LSU decided to hoard the meat, potatoes and all the gravy and they took our lunch money on their way to the Ga Dome.

Beginning today, I'm sure that the future goals of our football team will be reconsidered and restated to include winning the last 3 games of the season.

Our D played better than our O!

Hiver you are WAY off base here !

Sitting there in sec. 111 EVERYONE agreed, that 1st half was HORRIBLE for our defense and put the game way out of reach for our offense to even have a chance to come back. That was just a complete High School looking defense. LSU ran through our (way overrated Dline) like we were some high school team or something. We have been bad on defense in the last 2 games exposing a lot of weaknesses we have on that side of the ball including coaching. I will have to give the defense credit in the 2nd half, but that 1st half our defense could not of been any worst. just no excuses for that kind of defense and as we all said there in sec.111, if our defense doesn't get fixed, we will NEVER sniff in the area of a national championship, we will be good on offense in the future but defense is going to tell our future. If PJ doesnt get this fixed we will continue to get beat in the big game. Oklahome anf UF both have great defenses along with their great offense and that is why they are in the MNC game. Bowden, Holtz and May mentioned this on Espn, that the common trait of all championship teams is GREAT defense and we are far from that.

But, to say the defense outplayed the offense is SO wrong. I will give Wommack next year, but, we will know a lot about him next year, no excuses next year, he either get's it done or not. Giving up 35 1st half poinhts to LSU and then the 42 against Ugag along with FSU eating our defense alive, shows we have problems on defense, coaching is a big part of that, anyway you slice it.

You didn't see them taking shots like that with their true freshman QB in the first half when they put up 35 on us. It looked to me like Jordan was just throwing it up there to see what would happen. LSU's offensive gameplan changed from methodical and well-planned time consuming drives to high-risk-high-reward play calling.

LSU wanted 50 points...and they could not get it because our D did show that it cared in the second half. I give them credit for that....had to be hard given the circumstance.
If our defense showed that it cared in the second half, I'm really curious as to what they were doing in the first half. Yes, given the circumstances of our horrible special teams play, the defense was put into a tight spot. Nevertheless, CPJ said it himself after our loss to UVA... it's the job of the defense to get itself off of the field. A defensive player can't come off the field after the opponent scored a TD and feel better about his unit because offense or special teams screwed up and they only had 40 yards of protection.

My point is simply that the defense sucked as much as the offense and they don't deserve any more "credit" (or blame) than the offense.

CPJ tried something this season for bowl prep. It obviously failed. He won't do it again.

How many touchdowns did we score?
Hey Hiver...

Your defense of our NO DEFENSE is becoming laughable...

We were in a hole all night because the defense put us there...Yes, the offense was off last night BUT, 35-3 halftime, come on !!!! It is the job of our defense to stop them ....We NEVER stopped them the whole 1st half..They ran through us like we weren't even there...as the GT fans in my section said, with defense like that you would have to have an NFL offense just to catch up..Just down right pitiful...

I was right behind PJ and read his lips and demeanor, all night he was disgusted with our defense and was motioning to those coaches (Particular Kelly) He was not as visibly upset with the offensive players...

Wow, guess you have it down then. The whole team played poorly last night. It was not all on the defense. In fact, the 2nd quarter was clearly as much of a failure of the STs and ineffective offense as it was defense. You can't give a team that's clicking a short field to work with. We put the defense in a bad situation and they couldn't hold them out. Team loss, not on any single unit.

Oh, and the defense did stop them on 2 of their first 4 possessions, including after the onside kick. Of course then we gave them the ball on our 19, 24 and 42 in three straight possessions while our O ran 9 plays total. Yeah, the D could have saved us, but that looks an awful lot like STs and O setting them up to fail to me.

CPJ's "play for fun" approach is quantum leaps better than ccg's whatever the hell it was approach.

We are still a work in progress and compared to this time last year I will gladly take it.

Beating ugag is a thousand times better than being on what some thought was a true national stage against wfu.
