For one, getting to be competitive with winning seasons and bowl games was the goal when Cutcliffe was hired. That was the norm for us when we fired Gailey. Second, he is a bit of a QB savant. The guy running his offense is usually pretty good. Third, he stood up for his program and has gotten new locker rooms, an indoor practice facility, a nicely refurbished stadium, and other helps. His kids take no classes until after lunch. They practice in the morning, have meetings and lunch, then are free. It’s hard to see how serious a student you are if you don’t start class until after lunch. It is easier to make grades to stay eligible in a liberal arts program. The more quantitative the curriculum the harder it is to avoid some failing grades.
He seems to do a good job relating to his players and making it fun. The Mannings coming by every Spring does not hurt. Ted Roof recruited absolutely no kids from NC, while Cutcliffe has some local kids playing. This increases local interest. He hs been their most successful coach since Spurrier. These are the reasons as I see them.
