I remember about 7 years ago when I first started reading this website, and thinking this was the best college football website, period. The information was great, the opinions completely unbiased, and the columnists exuded a genuine joy when discussing football. In short, it was the exact opposite of ESPN. I guess after being bought by guys like Scout and Fox, it was only a matter of time before it became like all the other sites and sold its soul to get the maximum amount of readers and money. The site has been sliding for years, but I am now completely convinced they have gone to the Dark Side.

Their preseason rankings were fully released today, and they put us at 21, and UGA at 5. Now, usually I couldn't give a rat's ass what preseason rankings are, and really, only the Coach's Poll matters. But this to me is just a sad confirmation of the demise of my favorite football website. They say, and have always said, that their rankings rank team based on how good they are at the moment, not how good they might be overall. I'm trying to grasp the disparity in our rankings... I can understand if people want to put UGA a bit ahead of us for the moment, but 16 spots? A Top 5 ranking of UGA? It just reeks of selling-out.

I'm being honest, I don't care about the numbers or the rankings. It's not what this post is about. I just wanted to mourn the loss of my favorite football site.

:crybaby:

Here is the link, btw: http://cfn.scout.com/2/883939.html

Damn, I spent so much time typing that up that you beat me in the meantime, lol. Just think of this thread as the condolence thread. I accept flowers and cash donations.

Do you accept Paypal?

As you are being so kind to me, I'd hate to make you go through extra trouble with Paypal and all that. How about you just post your credit card number and expiration date on here for me.

Don't forget that 3 digit number on the back. We hacked StinGTalk, so we already know the billing address

Phil Steele has no crediblity with me neither. I was looking through the book today. Just a couple of things stood out. He has Spiller listed as the #1 running back in the country and Dwyer #2. However, he put Dwyer on his first string AA list and put Spiller 3rd (behind the kid from Oregon, I think).

He also has Jason Peters listed about 15 slots ahead of Derrick Morgan on his best DE's list. Not saying that Peters couldn't end up better, but what is it based on?

lol..
Why Florida is No. 1: ... The offensive line will be terrific, the backfield is loaded with veteran backs...

Relative Weaknesses: Offensive Line, Running Back

I almost started a thread on Phil Steele. His annual contains a lot of contradictions like that. It also seemed to me that about every other page had something about how great Phil Steele is. (This book is loaded with information! I write everything myself! I am a genius! My predictions always come true! I predicted that Notre Dame would beat Hawaii and it happened!!!!)

The funniest thing to me about Phil Steele's book is the Heisman hopeful section. Care to guess how many players he put in it?

SIXTY-SIX.

(Yes, Nesbitt is in there!)

I mean, when you claim that one of your SIXTY-SIX hopefuls will win the Heisman, it's damned hard to be wrong.

**** man, you can narrow that down to three and still be right dontcha know?

out of the top 12 teams according to that poll, 5 of them are from the SEC.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around UGAy being the 5th best team in the country at the moment. I want to know how they are that much better than they were at the end of last season. Was Knowshon bangin one of the coaches' wives on the side, thus ruining team chemistry? Was Stafford bangin Knowshon, and then Knowshon found out Stafford was spooning with Joe Cox on the weekends, thus poisoning the love between the teammates?
