market, why did it not get delivered when they played us in the Kickoff Classic?

maybe because of what you just said...they were playing US! If they played Miami or FSU, you'd expect a large crowd, but until we become respected for competing on the field at a national level, who in NY cares to see some school in Atlanta play? Heck, our own stadium isn't always sold out...and this even after give aways, 2 for 1s, AJC ads, and package deals for tickets.

Being on TV is the driving force behind media market - you get the contract to be in those huge markets and TV pays out big $$$. Your stadium could be empty but you still get TV money.

Don't judge the Kickoff Classic or any preseason bowl - that's not a contractual TV contract with a conference. The $$$ are in the contract for TV rights of your games. Heck, we can look at our own conference and say - does Duke, Wake draw in the stadiums, no. Although when you put a great product on the field you draw A WHOLE LOT MORE. Tech doesn't even draw if the product is poor.

This is all abour TV revenues and contracts and those media markets pay big money! Your product can stink - you'll still get the money.

But there is always going to bee an "US", every year. That is the point, if Cuse, or BC for that matter, was going to deliver the market it would not matter who they were playing but that isn't so.
