So PJ record @ Navy is 45-29

That's the thing that I'm *assuming* is going on...and the only reason he hasn't already taken the SMU job b/c of more pay. I'm thinking that DRad is saying "look, we're kinda in the hole right now with this whole buyout thing, and RIGHT NOW we can only offer you this. But stay with us, help us 'energize our fanbase'(whatever that actually means) and the money will be much more than SMU could ever pay you."

Chronic name caller: have you stopped to consider where Richt had been a HC before? Seems like he had no problem with our now ex Div II Championship and NFL head coach.

Have you stopped to count the number of this year's BCS bowl coaches who are head coaches for the first time at their current school?

Have you stopped to notice than Johnson has NO coaching experience-assistant or otherwise-at a major conference school? How many of this year's BCS bowl coaches had no previous major conference experience in any coaching postion like Johnson (hint: it is a very short list)?

Once again, you need to look in the mirror before you call other posters names.
You're right, I meant to add to my post that I actually don't have a problem with hiring a coordinator, but I'd like to hire one who is considered HC material. Just who has been chasing after JT since he's been here? When the talking heads rave about him, it's as the next DC at Michigan or LSU, not as a HC. Oh and I wasn't calling anyone names. The comment "genius" was an exclamation, you know like wow, or brilliant only meant to be taken as sarcasm. When I call you a name, it will be obvious.

The point is it's NAVY. They get Awful recruits every year, only giving 8-12 scholarships, but they still manage to win under PJ.

(Emphasis added.)

Huh?

You do know that every midshipman at Navy is on scholarship regardless of whether they play Div. I-A sports?

Uncle Sam is footing the bill in exchange for a post-graduation commitment to and commission in the armed forces.

Hmmm...good point. I got that stat off another poster here. guess I should have double checked my source eh?

but the point is he get's pretty bad recruits and still makes a team out of them.

What kind of teams has Navy played under PJ while compiling that W/L record?

Notre Dame, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Wake, it goes on.

I thought they were fattening up on Div 1AA, but they play mostly Div 1 teams now. I didn't go way back or anything, but the schedule isn't weak considering the players they have to recruit.

What high school kid wants to wake up at 5:30 every morning?

Navy's commitments...not sure what that means...but...I know it's not good.

That's just the recruits who happen to be going to Navy and who happen to be going to Navy.

Every student at Navy plays a sport, whether it be football, rugby, whatever. All football players in a sense are walk-ons, regular students who chose football. That's how Navy got an absurd 39 "commits" on Scout's list.

It's also not good at all. It means the vast bulk of your recruits are not even in Scout's database, much less rated for even three stars. With that talent, it's amazing they do so well even with their awful schedule.

2006 9-4

2005 8-4

2004 10-2

2003 8-5

2002 2-10

2001 0-10

Off by a year but still pretty close guys...I mean come on.

Also, their next best year was 9-3 in 1996, and then 1978

how has Air Force done over that time against much tougher competition?

He's talking about the number of football commitments that they take. Go back a few pages and look at my post, they only get 11-13 "commitments" from football players every year, and then in one year they had 36 or something like that. The point is that they have a bunch of walkons that play on the team as well.

By they way - in the past five years, they haven't had one kid with more than 2 stars (according to Scout) commit to play for them. That's like having 85 Jake Blackwoods or I-Perfection Harris' on your team.

That was me, and you are right; however, its probably even more complicated than that. The kids can't just be offered a scholarship and then commit. They have to get a letter from a Congressman!

You see, when the commit, they aren't just committing to play football right? They're committing to server our country, so they have to prove that the investment Uncle Sam makes in their training is going to pay off by committing to go to the academy early.

Why don't you look it up? This year, their schedule was ranked 91st by Sagarin (that's out of 242 schools, he includes all football playing schools). By contrast:

Cincinatti: 66th, ranked in the top 20 with the same record.
Kansas: 88th, ranked 4th at 11-1.
Texas Tech: 74th, 8-4 this year
Air Force: 77th, same record

He's basically playing a schedule between a big-time BCS school (typical SOS in the 30's or 40's) and a typical mid-major (e.g. CUSA's teams are almost all in the 100's; MAC SOS's are between 84-116).

Here are the SOS numbers for the past few years, according to Sagarin.
2007 - 91st (8-4)
2006 - 87th (9-4)
2005 - 100th (8-4)
2004 - 99th (10-2)
2003 - 108th (8-5)
