didn't Lou Holtz go 0-11iin his first year at South Carolina? and then had his team in the outback bowl the next year? but that was his first year
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Yes, I think you are right. I also know that except for a 1 year stint with the NY Jets (I believe)and short "retirement" Lou Holtz has been a head coach of a DIV I program for probably over 25 years. We will win some games this year.

SouthGa, personally, I think the criteria of Gailey coming back or departing depends on two things.

First, I believe the criteria for his return depends on the way the team plays during the season and not necessarily the wins and losses. Actually, the bar has been set so low, his chances of coming back for the third year is very high.

Secondly, I believe Gailey will give it his all this year and let the chips fall where they may. I believe he will make his own determination at the end of the year, based on his personal prospects for success or failure.

BeeBad, yes, at the end of the year, I will give my assessment of his chances of returning for next year. It is possible it will come even sooner according to the outcome of the first six or seven games.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Ahso.. my understanding was that either at the end of the season or possibly sometime before you would make known your personal opinion if gailey is the man for GT & whether he should remain.. Not his chances of returning.. This isn't what I remember.. Are you gonna make me go back & search the archives or are you going to clarify?....

If it is my assessment and no one else's assessment, don't you think that is my opinion of whether he should stay or go? What are you looking for, a signed contract?

Geeesh!

Ahso, I won't speak for beebad, but if I had asked his question my meaning would have been "take a stance, go out on a limb, don't cover yourself 6 ways to Sunday". You know, sometimes its just good old fashioned fun to take a chance by making a projection/ prediction you believe in, even though it may turn out to be wrong.

Sorry to butt in.

SouthGa: People on this board will not be satisfied with "good" losses. If its depth then they will ask why there wasn't more player rotation. If its QB play they will ask why the other guy didn't play. If its defense they will ask why we didn't blitz more. After they second guess the game decision they will move off the field and question motivation, recruiting, academics, etc etc.

No one wants to accept a losing season (me included) but the truth is they could go 5-7 and in some ways improve over last season.

My pledge is that I will attend all home games that I can and support GT regardless of the record.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">You are actually Right. 5-7 this year quite frankly would be better than the 7-6 last year (looking at it right now.)

Have to factor in the harder schedule this year.. Auburn comes on in place of Connecticut, a sure win last year vs one heckuva tough game this year.. Six regular season wins would be like 7 last year.. Six wins, good effort & a good showing versus UGA & it won't be an unsuccessful season..
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Good post Beebad and I agree...

I'm hoping we shock some folks.
