Solution to our kicking woes......

Go find one of the top high school kickers in the couontry and offer his ass a FULL RIDE scholarship....

dayum,,,,,just dayum

We could've had one this year by offerring preferred walkon status. His older sister is a Presidential Scholar. Last week at USMA practice, he was the only kicker to hit from 50, so the coach backed him to 55 and he it that. The Army Coach said, "I think you've got 60 Today", and he hit from 60.

I think I read somewhere that kicking doesn't translate as well from high school to college. Maybe beacuse of the block they kick off of, having to kick it higher, whatever. A lot of coaches are willing give scholarships to kickers, but they want to see the kicker prove he can kick well first.

Yeah, I remember hearing that high school kickers get tees on field goals, which is why the high school field goal record is something like 70 yards.

But I would be fine with Blair if he really didn't miss within 40 yards. Not perfect, but I would take a guaranteed three points within 40 and going for it outside 40. Unfortunately, it looks like he's wet the bed for some reason. I'm guessing he's clearly the better kicker in practice. Hopefully he can translate that into game performances.

I kind of gave up on Blair today. We should be counting on the kicker to make the kicks not tackles. Tanner comes with a good high school record. Don't know about distance but I was glad to see the change. Let's give him a shot, sez I. I could feel my hair starting to fall out watching Blair today. Good grief, dude.

Giving a scholarship to a kicker out of HS is dicey. Remember David Jordan? He was a "4 star" kicker out of Columbus that never really saw the field for us.

You would think that at a school full of international students that grew up playing soccer, you could find one kid w/a good, accurate leg. Didn't Texas Tech have an open tryout a season or two ago for a kicker?

I would hope that our staff will bring in a few kickers under the preferred walk-on status and give a scholarship to the most consistent.

I tried to rationalize the bad performances vs Jax State and miami, but you can't rationlaize what happened today. When we talk about going for it on 4th and long in the red zone, then we've got to find a new kicker.

Durant Brooks was junior college transfer. Is it just too hard to get junior college transfers in school at gatech? We don't seem to take many junior college players. Does anyone know the rules about D2 players moving to D1 schools? Seems like good junior college or D2 school kickers would have proven their adjustment to kicking off the ground instead of the high school block, thus being worthy of a scholarship. The problem is that even if we found a kicker recruit, we don't even have a scholarship to offer ...

doesn't tech have a club soccer team? i say go there and pick up someone! i mean 2 missed in one game?? i think they were 22 and 27, which are kicks that 98% of the nation's kickers can make while sleeping!

no i believe it was Texas A&M they had some kid kick for a promotional thing like we have at half time. the kid made it from 40 and got years free housing and a full scholarship on the team. he made almost all his kicks in the season and had a long of around 50.

You're right about the promotional thing, but it was TT, not TAMU. IIRC, they were missing like half their extra points before they brought on the guy from the promotional thing. Also, JUCO's have the same issues transferring as all students transfering into Tech, Tech not taking credit.

You are correct. Tech has a club soccer team.

I liked the kickers in Houston, they brought us lunch everyday. The ones in Buffalo, especially the punter bought me many drinks. The others? MEH

Our international students are from Asia, not Mexico.

If we needed a walk on ping pong player, we'd be golden.

Guys, just had a chance and to see the summary on ESPN last night so this was my first chance to catch up on the game.

Surprised to read of the kicking problems yesterday. Was the weather causing turf problems for the kickers?
