The following information I obtained from reading the Tech Roster posted on ramblinwreck.com:

On our current roster, Tech has 29 players that were 4 star recruits coming out of high school and one 5 star recruit. The 5 star player is OL Peirce Quick, who transferred from Alabama. He is a R-Sophomore. Of those highly recruited players, 17 are on Defense and 13 are on Offense. Coach Johnson recruited two of them (T.K. Chimedza, DL, R-Junior and Jaylon King, DB, R-Junior). Coach Collins has recruited 15 of them directly from high school. Of those, 6 are on Defense and 9 are on Offense. The other 13 transferred from other colleges.

We currently have 3 Defensive Linemen listed at weighing at least 300 pounds. They are T.K. Chimedza, 4 star recruit, 6-3, 335 pounds, R-Junior, Horace Lockett, 4 star recruit, 6-6 337 pounds, true Freshman, and Zeek Biggers, 3 star recruit, 6-6. 341 pounds, Sophomore. The other two 4 star recruits on the Defensive line are K.J. Miles, true Freshman 6-4, 280 pounds and Kevin Harris, R-Sophomore, 6-4, 241 pounds (transfer from Alabama).

There are eleven players at Defensive Back who are 4 star recruits. And two of our linebackers are 4 star recruits (Ayinde Eley, 6-3, 233 pounds, R-Senior, transfer from Maryland and Trenilyas Tatum, 6-2, 216 pounds, Sophomore.

On Tech's Offense Line, we currently have 16 players who weigh at least 300 pounds. Of those, four are 4 star recruits. They are R.J. Adams, 6-3, 329 pounds, R-Freshman, transfer from Kentucky, Paul Tchio, 6-5, 314 pounds, Sophomore, Transfer from Clemson, Weston Franklin, 6-4, 311 pounds, Sophomore, and Tyler Gibson, 6-5, 301 pounds, true Freshman. The 5 star recruit, Pierce Quick, transfer from Alabama, is 6-5, 291 pounds, and a R-Sophomore. Ironically, Pierce is our lightest offensive lineman on the roster!

Three of Tech's Quarterbacks are 4 star recruits. Jeff Sims, 6-4, 219 pounds, Sophomore, Zach Pyron, 6-3, 213 pounds, true Freshman, and Taisun Phommachanh, 6-3, 208 pounds, transfer from Clemson. (If we could make opposing defenses have to pronounce or spell his last name no one would ever sack him). The one 3 star recruit at Quarterback, Zach Gibson, QB, 6-3, 211 pounds, transfer from Akron, looks promising as well.

Two of Tech's running backs are 4 star recruits and both are true Freshman. Antonio Martin, RB, 5-11, 221 pounds, and Jamie Felix, RB, 5-10, 204 pounds. This doesn't include the talented RB, Dontae Smith, 3 star recruit, 5-11, 203 pounds, R-Junior. In addition, three of Tech's wide receivers are 4 star recruits. They are Nate McCollum, WR, 5-11, 184 pounds, Sophomore, D.J. Moore, WR, 6-1, 187 pounds, true Freshman, and James Blackstrain, WR, 6-2, 188 pounds, R-Freshman. And some of the three star recruits at WR are very talented, as well. Such as, Leo Blackburn, WR, 6-5, 221 pounds, R-Freshman and Malachi Carter, WR, 6-3, 192 pounds, Senior.

Therefore, Tech has a talented roster with good size. They are young overall, but have some experience at key positions. Unfortunately, our overall coaching staff has done a really poor job the past three seasons. The record speaks for itself. However, Chip Long as Offensive Coordinator should be a big improvement over the previous Offensive Coordinator. In addition, Chris Weinke working with our quarterbacks could make a difference. On defense, despite retaining Andrew Thacker as Defensive Coordinator, both David Turner (Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Run Game Coordinator) and Travares Tillman (Defensive Backs/Defensive Pass Game Coordinator) could bring some new insight defensively.

No matter how bad Tech has done the previous year, I always get excited about "Toe meeting leather" at the beginning of every season! You never know how the season will go until the Yellow Jackets play the games on the field. Let's pull for all of these young men to succeed in 2022 as they play football for GEORGIA TECH!

GO JACKETS!

Diddnt see Hassan Hall in there, apparently he was a three star, but I think he'll do some good things for us. I follow UofL, not as closely, but he's a good back.

If Tillman is defensive pass game coordinator, and Turner is defensive run game coordinator, what part of the defense is Thacker coordinating?

That is a quality post. Let’s stomp Clempson and not lose to Western Carolina (although I’m sure we’ll make it interesting).

How is it when we have a new coach or coordinator it’s a positive but when an opponent has a new coach or coordinator it’s a negative for the opponent.

The same logic behind it being a positive that we have 6 returning starters

And he was a 3 star transfer. Some of you guys need to stop judging transfers by their HS rankings.

I was guilty of this early on in the transfer era. But it now seems pretty uncommon for a factory kid to transfer to a non-factory and excel.
