Some Thoughts

dems great report. Thank you!!

I have a question. I was talking with someone who is not necessarily an insider but somewhat close and he said that Nesbitt missed a lot of reads in the game. I wasn't quite sure what to make of that comment as Nesbitt obviously was the difference for us against BC.

In your opinion, are the coaches happy with Nesbitt's ability to run the offense?

I'm no insider, but Coach Bohannon was quoted in the AJC that Nesbitt missed a lot of reads. Coach B also said Nesbitt made plays when it counted. Cant find the exact quotes but thats how I remember it.

Nesbitt is still learning. Imagine how explosive the O will be if Nesbitt and O-line make quick, correct reads consistently!

Nesbitt did miss reads, but he made some good ones too.

Sorry to jump in. I would like dems to comment as well.

I'm thinking about Joe Ham in 1997 versus Joe Ham in 1998.

Not a direct comparison but one of similar magnitude.

Facts of option-based offenses:

  1. Take time and repetition to learn no matter who you are (reads for both QBs & blockers)
  2. For this reason, option-based teams get better as the season goes on: improved reads, ball-handling, & timing.
  3. The above are ESPECIALLY true if it is a new system being installed--because everything is new
Josh was expected to miss a bunch of reads. The OL was expected to miss a bunch of reads. The offense was expected to put the ball on the ground.

Go to Navy's Scout board and read about their thoughts on the BC game. Basically they said we look like them the first year PJ was there except we have way better athletes & our defense is stout.

articles in the AJC.

“There’s a lot of things we can learn from,” said Brian Bohannon, Tech’s quarterbacks and B-backs coach. “He missed some reads. He missed a lot of reads.”

I like these coaches coming out and offering some criticizing in public, praise as well. This is the first time in a long time these kids don't get free passes.

BOR, Coach Monken said in the AJC that Josh missed alot of reads, so its probably right on. That's not a cut on Josh, its just that it takes time to learn. He'll be better next week, and the week after, and.....you catch my drift.

Actually, the announcers on TV mentioned in the second half that he was finally doing the first read with speed.

He missed some reads but it was mostly in the running game. 2nd half he did a lot better job knowing when to run and when to pitch. His passes are still floating a little high as well but we gotta catch the ones we get our hands on. Josh is a great kid and wants to get better, he will listen to the coaches and keep improving each week.

You commented that:

"OL play needs to improve, we faced the best front 4 we will face this year though, those boys in the middle are huge and just abused us. For the option to improve the OL play has to get better first or we will just keep getting rushed into making bad decisions. "

Do you think that the poor quality of the OLine play is do to:
1) OL lack ofAbility
2) QB misreads
3) OL misreads/communication
5) Takes time to learn the system. (some say it would take 1 or 2 years not 1 or 2 games:wow:)
6) BC rushing Defense is that good

From AJC:

"Boston College returns many of the defenders who last year limited opponents to 75.5 yards rushing per game"

I would say it was a mixture of the last 3 you listed. By mid season I expect the line to be gelling like it should be. But BC has two very good DT's that were just collapsing the middle of our OL. We will also be getting AJ Smith back this week and he could move into the starters role at Guard.

Who taught you how to count?
