Geoff Collins is simply running our football program into the ground! Our game Saturday night, clearly showed everyone this man doesn't know what he is doing. It's sad, but true. The longer this continues the more players will jump into the transfer portal and say, adios! While we still have the players, we need to bring in a proven coach to right the ship before she sinks. One good thing Coach Collins has done is he has brought in very good talent. He also has gotten us bigger and stronger. He just doesn't know what do with that talent and never will as a head coach. And unfortunately, his assistant coaches seem clueless, as well.

When Geoff Collins was originally hired, by Stansbury, I actually thought it made good sense. He had been at Tech, as a assistant coach several times, had proven he could recruit talented players, and was very positive. He truly believed Tech could get back to prominence in football. Believing you can accomplish something is essential in being successful. Several past Tech coaches, athletics directors, administrators, and, fans never actually believed Tech could be successful again at the highest level. Even Coach Johnson, who was a very good coach, often pointed out Tech's short comings on why he didn't win as many games as he could have. 1990 proved so many wrong, including myself! With the right coaching staff Tech CAN win at the highest level!

I realize, thanks to Stansbury, Coach Collins has a 7 year contract that would cost us a fortune to fire him. And we have been told recently Tech is already in dire straits financially. However, if the big donors told the powers that be, " We aren't giving you a dime more until you make a change." Maybe they could work out a payment plan. It's frustrating being in this situation. In the real world, NO ONE would be paid millions of dollars to be bad at what they do! And then be paid a fortune to just fire them from their job. That's insane! However, it's our own fault. Now, we have to figure out the best way to clean up the mess.

If Tech can work out a way to relieve Collins of his duties I wish they would call Ralph Friedgen. I know he is 74 year's old, but the man would clean this crap up quickly. I wish to goodness that would happen, but realistically probably not. His health likely would not allow him to take on the job. If not Ralph, then it would need to be another proven coach that could come at a moments notice. Or if Tech can't or won't fire Collins, tell him, "We WILL bring in some new assistant coaches who know what the hell they are doing to help you."

I'm usually an optimist. You have to be being a Tech fan or you will go bat sh#t crazy! However, this is one of the worst situations I have EVER seen Tech in since I have been a fan (which started in 1985). Our players, and fans, deserve better!

I feel like what we need is the opposite of that tho. Big donors giving money to get him gone rather than just telling the program "you're going further down the financial hole one way or another". Then there's the chance they don't give money after he's gone, either cause they're done or worse say something like "we'll give money again when the team is good".

Thank you for that excellent post.

Ive seen a couple of posts saying there could be a potential for big time donors to pull money to pay his buyout. Why not tray to get some better coordinators first if Collins is actually good at recruiting and talking with donors/the media. It would seem that would be cheaper.

GoJackets89, you make a good point. It would be cheaper to hire better coordinators than to pay a king's ransom to have Collins fired. However, you are still left with a bad head coach. The assistant coaches still answer to him.

Ralph Freidgen? Seriously?

One of the best OC in college football history. But he's retired. He's done. There is no putting the band back together.

We can't dig up Bobby Dodd or John Heisman. We have to figure this out on our own.

Well we could hire Godsey as OC but I doubt he would leave the NFL.

Given the current staff's lack of P5 experience it is no wonder we are where we are.

Lots of old skool thinking here. Buy a top coach. Buy a top coordinator.

Tech boosters should be working on buying better players. This is The Way.

Can we make this the official whiny, crying, pansy thread and keep all that crap here so the rest of us can ignore it more easily?

This is a grieving process. Show some sensitivity and let this thing play out as long as it needs to

00Burdell, Ralph said to tell you hey. And he wanted to pass along to you, "I ain't buried yet so don't go trying to dig me up!" :)

I understand Ralph is retired, but it's worth a try. I remember a lyric from a Traveling Wilbury's song, "Even if your old and grey you still have something to say!"

I have two GT degrees and don’t get the Tech man thing either really.
I’ve given a good bit of money to the engineering school, but find it hard to give a lot to GTAA while disagreeing with how they operate sometimes. I would have offered Collins 3 years automatically renewable to 5 based on decent progress (winning season years 3&4, bowl by year 5. So maybe it’s framed as 5 years with contingencies. No freakin way I offer an unproven P5 HC 7 years.
Anyway, we’re stuck.
I’ve imagined maybe TStan reading him the riot act along with very specific instructions on how he is to operate going forward.
I figured Collins would have to be a complete idiot to not get the message after the Citadel game. Ok yeah rebuilding, but not ok to look like a h.s. team while being out coached by someone making roughly 1/8th your salary. Maybe this will be discussed more explicitly now, who knows.
